This is an exciting opportunity for someone to develop their clinical skills in a role that makes a positive impact in people's lives within an innovative and pioneering CAMHS service. This one-year fixed term training post is for Registered Mental Health Nurses with post registration experience to work as a 'Recruit to Train' therapist and Senior Mental Health Practitioner within a community CAMHS team or within a Mental Health Support Team (MHST) with other clinicians delivering evidence-based interventions.
This post provides the opportunity to complete the Children and Young People Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (CYP-IAPT) training in Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Adolescents (IPT-A) that is being run in collaboration with Anna Freud Centre and undertaking training at University College London. This is an excellent training provided by Leading Practitioners in this field. The successful candidates will study at University College London, learning how to deliver IPT for adolescents with depression. The trainee will also be working as Senior Mental Health Practitioner within one of the varied CAMHS community teams for the duration of the one year course and would split their time between attending university teaching days and carrying out clinical work within their teams. After successful completion of the course the fixed term training contract will end however applicants would be encouraged to apply for any vacant posts within the service.
Main duties of the job
IPT-A is a 12-16 session evidence based therapy for CYPs with a primary presentation of depression, it is indicated when depression is linked with interpersonal difficulties in social systems/relationships. It is a particularly effective therapy where there is discord between the young person and a close relative, where there has been a significant life change/or transition, where there has been a bereavement or loss of significant other, and where there has been significant bullying and/or history of social relationship difficulties. IPT-A Practitioners will be trained to respond to and work with suicidal ideation and deliberate self-harm.
The training involves teaching blocks as well as weekly teaching and supervision days at UCL. Applicants must be willing to travel.
The clinical work involves being part of a multi-disciplinary CAMHS team and successful candidates will carry their own caseload of IPT-A training cases. Workplace supervision will be provided weekly.
About us
In Hampshire CAMHS we value a strong nursing professional identity and encourage clinicians to be part of this with annual 'away days', robust lead nurse clinical framework with a Nurse consultant steering this. The successful applicant will also continue to utilise and develop their direct clinical work within the 4 pillars of nursing (clinical practice, leadership and management, education, and research) and receive support with revalidation.
Interpersonal therapy primarily focuses on the way our relationships affect us and also how other mental health difficulties can affect our relationships. This is a key feature in nursing care and can be built upon during the training year.
By coming to work at Hampshire CAMHS you would be joining Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust which has a national reputation for research, where services recognise that research underpins its commitment to providing high quality and innovative clinical care.
Hampshire CAMHS is committed to exploring ways of providing timely, locally delivered, high quality and effective interventions. These aim to maximize mental health and maintain children and young people within their home and educational environment. Hampshire CAMHS places supervision of its staff as a priority. It also uses audits, evaluations and routine outcome measures to continuously improve our service.
This post offers an incentive or relocation package up to the maximum of 4000 (pro rata applies and subject to terms and conditions)
