We are a small, innovative, and friendly team seeking an enthusiastic and professional member of staff. We have four sites across Swansea Bay and a team of 13 staff.

Swansea Bay UHB Library Services plays an important role in supporting clinical governance, evidence based healthcare, continuing professional development and research. It provides services for staff based in the hospitals, primary care staff in the area covered by the Health Board and funded students on placement. The post holder will be based at Singleton Hospital and will assist the Library Services Manager in the delivery of a high quality and proactive library service.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertaking complex literature searches and providing systematic review support.
  • Delivering library inductions to staff and School of Medicine students in conjunction with Swansea University Libraries.
  • Training users in the effective use of online resources one to one, via Teams and small groups.
  • Designing appropriate training courses, presentations, guides and materials for users of varying ability, clinical and non-clinical.
  • Utilising current awareness tools including Knowledgeshare.
  • Undertaking library promotion and marketing including the library website and social media channels.
  • Monitoring, identifying and circulating NICE guidance for the organisation.
  • Acting as Athens Administrator for the organisation.
  • Sharing responsibility for the everyday organisation and duties of the library environment.
  • To be responsible for the day to day management of the library in the absence of the Library Services Manager.
  • To work in collaboration with NHS Wales Libraries on projects, services and initiatives.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • A degree in library or information related studies or able to demonstrate the equivalent level of knowledge, skills and experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development


Desirable

  • Chartered Membership of CILIP
  • ECDL or equivalent IT qualification
  • Teaching/training qualification and/or experience


Skills

Essential

  • Excellent standard of IT skills including MS Office, web based applications and email.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills and an ability to produce instructional and training documentation
  • Time management skills
  • Self-motivating and able to work unsupervised and meet deadlines


Desirable

  • Experience in staff supervision
  • Experience of web development
  • Experience of literature searching


Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of working in the library/information field, ideally in a health, academic or special library environment.
  • Customer service experience
