We have en exciting new Consultant role available for our Perinatal Mental Health Service, which covers North Lincolnshire, Hull and the East Riding. This post is one of three posts within the Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board partnership for Perinatal Mental Health.

The Perinatal Team provides a service, across the Integrated Care Board, for women of any age who are pregnant or have a baby up to one year who are experiencing severe and complex mental health problems or perinatal specific psychological problems in the antenatal, perinatal and postnatal period.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is to provide clinical leadership to the Service within North Lincolnshire, Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the future development and vision for the service to ensure the continued safe, effective, and caring response to women and their families whilst receiving a high-quality specialist service. There is also an expectation that the post holder also delivers direct patient care. In addition, the post holder will be expected to work with other services within the ICB footprint to develop a clinical network.

Job description

Job responsibilities

As a consultant working for the Perinatal team, you will have responsibility for the provision of safe and effective care and treatment. You will share the vision of integrated and multi-disciplinary working and actively engage in the development of the service through research and support.

The post holder would be expected to be approved as a Responsible Clinician or be willing to undertake training to obtain Section 12(2) MHA and will be expected to renew this approval according to agreed procedures.

The ability to commute within the Trusts geographical area with access to the appropriate means of transport is essential.

Person Specification



  • fully registered with the GMC with necessary qualifications
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment (the Trust will appoint a section12(2) to provide this role in the sector during the transition)
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment


  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice

Qualifications and Knowledge


  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.


  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
  • MRCPsych
  • Additional clinical qualifications or endorsements.

  • Excellent knowledge in specialty
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA


  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service

Academic skills and lifelong learning


  • Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training
  • Ability to work in and lead team
  • Demonstrate commitment to shared leadership & collaborative working to deliver improvement.
  • Able to use and appraise clinical evidence
  • Has actively participated in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes

  • Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post
  • Experienced in clinical research and / or service evaluation.
  • Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations and publications.
  • Has led clinical audits leading to service change or improved outcomes to patients



  • Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.
