The Yorkshire & Humber Surgery in Children Operational Delivery Network (Y& H SIC ODN) covers 14 trusts, working together to ensure that children and their families receive appropriate care, in a setting able to meet their needs, as close to home as possible.

The Network has many functions with one of its major roles being the development, standardisation and implementation of common guidelines, improving patient pathways, as well as the provision of educational support for key clinical areas across the Network.

A post has arisen for an ODN Lead Nurse. The successful post-holder will work with the Network Manager and Clinical Lead to provide senior leadership and independent advice to the ODN and its membership, enabling clinical engagement in the function of the network.

The post is aimed at Senior Nurses, with an interest in network working. The appointment is for a period of 2 years initially and for up to 0.6 WTE.

Main duties of the job

Provide nursing leadership and advice to the ODN executive group and clinical forum groups. Support the development of network strategies, plans and development of proposals by being an active participant in the SiC ODN Management team.

Be visible and accessible and provide clinical professional leadership to paediatric surgical nursing staff at all levels across the region.

Be a champion for family-centred care throughout the ODN. Support and promote parent/user engagement.

Contribute to the leadership and educational agenda within the SIC ODN.

Be an expert, knowledgeable and visible practitioner within the speciality of surgery in children ensuring the provision of high quality evidence based nursing care for the children and their families.

With ODN management team and other members of the ODN set, monitor and seek to continuously improve standards. Benchmark services and ensure equal access to quality surgical care for children, including those standards defined in national guidance/reports (e.g. GIRFT)

Engage with and where appropriate work with other Y& H ODNs

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Current Registration with NMC


Desirable

  • Accredited Paediatric Qualification
  • Accredited teaching & assessing qualification


Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Ability to motivate, influence and lead teams
  • Sound Knowledge of Children's Surgery


Career Experience

Essential

  • Current Senior Nursing Position with recent paediatric surgical experience
  • Substantial post registration experience with relevant recent senior experience in the field
  • Evidence of effective leadership
  • Working in partnership across disciplines and/or organisations


Desirable

  • Evidence of successful introduction of significant service improvements
  • Advanced Teaching Skills
