With the opening of our Community Diagnostic Centre in the relatively near future we have opportunities for those wishing to join our department. B5 Trainee MRI Radiographer role which prepares staff following our program to become a multi-skilled MRI radiographer eligible for promotion to B6 when an opportunity becomes available.

The UHNM MRI department currently has seven scanners across two sites with a fabulous growing team of 35+ radiographers and 25+ Imaging Department Assistants, supported by a dedicated MR physicist team. We are currently starting initial work on additional MRI expansion including community diagnostic services.

We pride ourselves on the breadth of our clinical workload and expertise, delivering a full range of MRI examinations.

Main duties of the job

We have an excellent record of high quality in house MRI radiographer training however we are open minded in our outlook and encourage new blood to join our team to further improve our MRI service.

We operate a 7 day a week service, extended hours 7am-9pm rotating across two sites, and include an on call rota. There is a 7am early bird service operating in the main department next to our Accident & Emergency department to facilitate the swift care of emergency cases.

The department is equipped with 2 Siemens Vida 3T scanners and 1 Siemens 1.5T Sola each installed 2019 with 2 Siemens Aera scanners being replaced this winter( 2023-2024) and a further Aera and a Siemens Skyra being replaced in 2025. In addition we are currently progressing our 8th & 9th clinical scanners as part of our Community Diagnostic Centre

  • A candidate must have existing good radiographic skills with some demonstrable MRI Knowledge.
  • You to pass a face to face skills assessment

  • A desire to deliver high quality imaging, demonstrating good clinical understanding and a sound awareness of governance processes
  • Demonstrated ability in your existing role to manage workload , remaining calm and organised even on the busiest day
  • Competency and sign off of the majority of departmental clinical examinations within 6-9 months which will require the trainee to be consistently proactive.
  • A full commitment to our on-call service on completion of training and mentorship
  • Strong team spirit traits and mentoring of junior staff

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • DCR/BSc in Radiography
  • HCPC registered
  • Evidence of MRI related learning


Desirable

  • Evidence of radiographic CPD


Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable exposure to MRI at least at undergraduate level.
  • At least 12 months clinical experience in a busy NHS environment or equivalent


Desirable

  • Experience of MRI 1.5 Teslas or above field strength
  • Post qualification cross-sectional imaging experience, preferably in MRI


MRI Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of basic MRI safety principles
  • Awareness of Clinical utility/workload of MRI
  • Basic understanding of MRI physics principles
  • Ability to organise self and manage workload
  • Able to communication clearly with patients, staff and visitors
  • Be able to provide excellent references including most recent employer


Desirable

  • Experience of a range of MRI examinations
  • Awareness of the impact of physical principles on tissue weighting and contrast
  • Able to obtain compliance from anxious/ vulnerable patients
  • Innovative and able to put forward ideas
