Join our expanding Theatres team of Operating Department Practitioners!

We're looking for new team members who share our vision to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

Our service now includes admission and recovery of elective patients and a continued emergency service for the Trust. Our team works 24/7, 365 days a year. As part of a rotation with other team members, you'll be expected to work evenings, nights, on calls, Bank Holidays and weekends.

Main duties of the job

Assist and care for patients undergoing a variety of elective (Vascular, Orthopaedics, Urology, Obstetrics & Gynae, Plastics, Robotics, ENT and General Surgery) and Emergency procedures.

Receive, transfer and position patients for clinical procedure.

Prepare the Anaesthetic room and Theatre for clinical procedure

Assist and support the Anaesthetist to deliver general anaesthetic, regional blocks/ local anaesthetics to patients in Theatres and in outside areas including Maternity, Interventional Radiology, CT/ MRI scan,Endoscopy, Cardiology and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation.

Prepare equipment/ supplies and waste is kept to a minimum

Responsible for preparation, safe use, decontamination, troubleshooting and reporting of faulty complex equipment (TEG, ACT, Cell Salvage, Video laryngoscopes, bronchoscopes, ultrasound, anaesthetic machines).

Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure the safety and comfort of patients

Work in any of the Theatre areas according to service needs, regardless of which theatre department they are based in, although it is anticipated that staff do permanently work in the department they are employed to be based in.

Participation in on- calls and out of hours working is needed by all staff, regardless of the department they are based in, to provide emergency access to our most acutely ill patients.

Qualifications / Training

Essential

  • Registered Nurse or Registered ODP
  • Must be willing to undertake relevant post registration courses as advised by the Practice Educators/ Theatre Team Leaders

  • ILS/ALS
  • PILS


Previous Experience

Essential

  • Gained through undertaking relevant study


Desirable

  • Post qualification experience within the perioperative setting


Skills

Essential

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Basic IT skills
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative

  • Good planning skills


Knowledge

Essential

  • Aware of the National 6 Cs campaign
  • Aware of Trust's Values
  • An understanding of peri-operative patient care
  • Understanding of aseptic technique
