- The university Hospitals North Midlands is a tertiary centre for many cardiac procedures, run across, 4 thriving catheter labs.
This post holder will be the Deputy lead team to 8 radiographers and support the 24/7 delivery of elective and acute activity .
Maintain a high standard of expertise in radiographic technique, exhibiting good organisational skills, providing leadership and support to the cardiac radiography team and Superintendent Radiographer, also assisting the Cath lab manager in the departments overall strategy.
Main duties of the job
- To monitor that radiation incidents are being appropriately reported to the Directorate risk management team to liaise with the Trust's Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) in regard to radiation incidents and in conjunction with the RPA conduct the detailed investigation and follow-up of such incidents.
- To liaise with the medical physics department, the Trust's Medical Physics Expert (MPE), the Trust Laser Protection Adviser (LPA) and Trust RPA on any of the above matters as appropriate, and on any radiation safety issues or concerns within Cardiology.
- To be the appointed Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS), and appointed Laser Radiation Protection Supervisor (LPS), for Cardiology. In this capacity to oversee safe operational radiation working practice within the radiation controlled areas in Cardiology on a day-to-day basis.
- Ensure service provision and take lead on maintenance of labs
- Support Catheter lab manager in identifying service developments and driving the clinical strategy
- Monitor radiation incidents within the department and to liaise with the radiation protection adviser in order to provide effective radiation protection within the cardiac catheter labs. The post holder will also be responsible for reviewing Local Dose Reference levels in line with IRR 17 and IR(ME)R 17
- Monitor sickness absence, annual leave, performance management and undertaking performance appraisals in line with local trust policies.

The Directorate Management team comprises of a Clinical Director, Directorate Manager and Clinical Leads.
The Clinical Director post is currently held by Dr Simon Duckett (Consultant cardiologist).
The Heart Centre Directorate Manager for cardiology is Jo Palmer who takes the lead in operational and strategic activities and is responsible to the Clinical Director.
The current Clinical Lead for Cardiology at UHNM is Mrs C Oxley who works in close collaboration with Cath Lab manager, Ms Julie Stubbs.

Job responsibilities
- Supervise, develop and maintain high level of expertise, of radiographic technique within the cardiac radiography team.

- To maintain a good working relationship with clinical technology and the Managed Equipment Services, ensuring that the service schedule runs in tandem with the daily scheduled procedure lists. T
- supervise quality assurance programs and hold responsibility for monitoring any changes in radiation output from the x-ray equipment.
- To manage and motivate cardiac radiographers and student radiographers undergoing training in cardiology.
- To be flexible in working hours and take active control of the 24/7 rota ensuring that there is adequate cover after annual leave, sickness absence and any other type of authorised absence.
- Maintain good working relationship with all members of the Cardiac team and provide support and expertise.

- Deputise for Catheter Lab Lead and represent unit at directorate and trust level
- Perform such other duties as may be required at the discretion of the Directorate Manager and the professional head of imaging.

oDCR/BSc Degree or equivalent in Diagnostic Radiography
