An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Counselling/Clinical Psychologist to join our psychology team on our Adult Mental health Inpatient Wards, at St George's Hospital Stafford. Applications are welcome from newly qualified psychologists and experienced psychologists looking for a new and exciting opportunity. Currently we have 3 assistant psychologists and a 2 principal psychologists covering 3 Acute Wards and a PICU in our growing psychology team.
Psychology is highly valued on our wards and within our MDT. The successful candidate will be supported in their visions and ideas for psychological working with patients and with supporting staff on the wards. The successful applicant will be facilitated freedom to be creative in the role. The psychology team works collaboratively in helping the pursuits of others.

Job responsibilities
To provide a specialist clinical psychology service within pathway to adults their families or carers. To work with clients alone at the team base, in local NHS settings or other care environments, or at their home as necessary. Within this to be able to communicate highly complex information effectively in highly emotive situations and overcome psychological resistances to potentially threatening issues. To be responsible for conducting psychological interviews, deriving information from self-report measures, rating scales, psychometrics (where necessary), direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients care, interpreting complex data and giving feedback effectively and with sensitively. To be skilled in risk assessment and management. These demands will incorporate frequent intense concentration often in emotionally demanding or unpredictable environments. You will be expected to maintain high professional levels of clinical judgement and application of complex skills at all times.
You will provide expert psychological assessment and reports, both written and verbal, to referrers of people with a wide range of psychological problems, in accordance with codes of professional ethics. Following assessment, to provide expert formulation and psychological therapy to an exceptionally high standard to service users with a range of mental health problems.

Main duties of the job
- To provide expert psychological assessment and reports, both written and verbal, to referrers of people with a wide range of psychological problems, in accordance with codes of professional ethics. .
- Following assessment, to provide expert formulation and psychological therapy to an exceptionally high standard to service users with a range of mental health problems.
- To formulate and implement plans for formal psychological intervention and/or management of a client's psychological difficulties, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client's problems, and employing methods of proven efficacy, across the full range of care settings.
- To manage a specialist caseload autonomously and within the criteria directed by the Trust. To make difficult decisions about priorities and clinical issues.
- To work with the MDT via Joint Assessment, Sharing Formulation, Joint Intervention.
- Offering clinical supervision and teaching to the MDT, along with staff support and reflective practice on an ad-hoc basis. There will be opportunities to supervise assistant psychologists.
- To offer 1:1 psychology sessions and potential group sessions
