An opportunity has arisen on Fielding Ward for a 6 month secondment development opportunity. The successful candidate will support the Ward Sister and provide excellent clinical leadership to the whole team whilst enabling you to develop your own management and leadership skills.
The ward is a fast turnover environment. You will require the skills to be able to work under pressure, use your initiative and have the ability to work as part of a large MDT team, you will also have the opportunity to develop skills and gain competencies by working within the department and gaining an understanding of caring for cardiac patients.
We are looking for highly motivated individuals who can provide strong clinical and managerial leadership, with excellent communication skills.
This role requires a close working relationship with our multi-professional team to ensure that evidence-based quality care is delivered with compassion to every patient and their families.
You will need to have high clinical standards with a passion for providing outstanding care for patients and staff alike. It is essential that you are good at promoting cooperation, building teams, and developing people for the future, as well as focusing on your own professional growth.
We are looking for someone who is qualified as Practice Assessor and is keen to support and develop new skills for our junior staff, and who will listen and lead to make a difference to our patients and their families.
Main duties of the job
To provide effective clinical and managerial leadership of a ward, in the absence of the senior Ward Sister, which empowers staff to deliver patient- centred, evidence-based nursing care within a defined budget.
Establish systems for a multi-disciplinary approach to patient-centred care delivery, which builds on the philosophy of greater involvement of patients and their relatives/carers by using the Trusts patient and public involvement strategy.
Supports the Senior Ward Sister and in her absence is responsible for all aspects of staff management, including the recruitment process of staff, sickness and performance monitoring, adhering to Trust Human resource policies, to ensure a fair and consistent approach when dealing with staff issues, under the guidance of the Matron or Associate Director of Patient Care.
Contributes to creating an environment that is conducive to learning, by providing reading material and teaching sessions for a group of staff, or on a one-to-one basis and give support to staff undertaking new or advanced roles.
Take responsibility for ensuring on a shift-by-shift basis, that the Trust policy for clinical incident reporting is followed. Support the Senior Ward Sister to use the learning from incidents in a positive way to develop or change practice.
