The Emergency Admissions Unit (EAU) at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital is looking for registered nurses who are passionate about providing excellent patient care within a vibrant and motivated team. This is a challenging fast-paced working environment, caring for a diverse patient group, which will enable you to build a sound clinical knowledge and skill set. Furthermore, interested individuals must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be organized, hardworking, and have a commitment to Continued Professional Development with a willingness to undertake training as required.

The Emergency Admissions Unit is housed within a state-of-the-art Emergency Care Centre (ECC) which was purpose built in 2015. The ECC has brought cutting edge healthcare to Gateshead, where we pride ourselves on innovative ways of providing emergency care to patients.

Main duties of the job

To provide High standard of patient centred care to patients.

To promote professionalism and ICORE Values.

To work autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team , and be able to recognize the need to escalate clinical concern.

To work as an effective member of the ECC team supporting the patient journey

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based care to patients during their time on the Emergency Admission Unit, ensuring that the patient is centre to their care.
  • Demonstrate a sound clinical knowledge base.
  • Able to perform accurate admission assessment and plan care accordingly.
  • Able to recognize when reasonable adjustments are needed to support a vulnerable patient.
  • Able to work effectively in a fast paced and challenging environment and offer support to colleagues and wider team.
  • Always demonstrate professionalism and adherence to ICORE values.
  • Able to document cleary and concisely.
  • Prioritise workload and be able to adapt to surge in activity.
  • Engaged in professional development.
  • Able to escalate concerns in a prompt manner and work within limitations.
  • Contribute to the development of services by participating in audits, practice developments, developing protocols relating to advanced practice and the extended role of nursing.
  • Maintain and demonstrate an awareness of current research and legislation and work within the NMC Code of Conduct.
  • Contribute to quality improvement to ensure the highest standards of patient care are always achieved in the most effective manner.

  • Degree in Nursing
  • Valid NMC UK registration


Experience

  • Recent acute medical experience (experience in final year student placement would be considered)
