This one-year fixed term training post is for Registered Mental Health Nurses with post registration experience to work as a 'Recruit to Train' therapist and Senior Mental Health Practitioner within a community CAMHS team or within a Mental Health Support Team (MHST) with other clinicians delivering evidence-based interventions.

This post provides the opportunity to complete the Children and Young People Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (CYP-IAPT) training in psychological therapy for young people with ASC/LD that is being run in collaboration with Anna Freud Centre and undertaking training at University College London. This is an excellent training program provided by Leading Practitioners in this field. The successful candidates will study at University College London, learning how to deliver IPT for adolescents with depression. The trainee will also be working as Senior Mental Health Practitioner within one of the varied CAMHS community teams for the duration of the one year course and would split their time between attending university teaching days and carrying out clinical work within their teams. After successful completion of the course the fixed term training contract will end however applicants would be encouraged to apply for any vacant posts within the service.

Main duties of the job

The Autism Spectrum Conditions with or without a Learning Disability (ASC/LD) training will provide a broad range of skills and practical strategies required to meet the mental health needs of CYP with ASC and LD (particularly Anxiety and Depression). The course aims to provide trainees with Consideration of and Positive Behaviour Support, Adaptations to the application of the CBT model and associated manuals for varying presentations alongside Environmental Adaptations are part of the key toolsets that will be taught. This course is looking for creative and flexible individuals who are able to adapt and increase the accessibility to mental health interventions for CYP with ASC and LD across the age range 5-19.

The training involves teaching blocks within the school terms as well as weekly teaching and supervision days at UCL. Applicants must be willing to travel to both London and must be comfortable with community working across a range of settings to include clinic, schools and MHST bases.

The clinical work involves being part of a multi-disciplinary CAMHS team and successful candidates will carry their own caseload of training cases. Workplace supervision will be provided weekly by ASC LD Lead, with Line Management provided weekly by locality manager initially, moving to monthly after new starter appraisal.
