Brief Description of the Role:
A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented and enthusiastic nurse with experience in Orthopaedics and Trauma.
Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a band 6 nurse (RGN) to work within their Fracture Liaison Service (FLS).
Fragility fractures are often the first sign of osteoporosis and usually occur as a result of a minor fall. They are one of the leading healthcare costs across Europe, with data predicting an exponential rise in fragility fracture numbers across Europe by 2030.
An FLS systematically identifies and captures all eligible adult patients within a local population who have suffered a fragility fracture, with the aim of reducing their risk of subsequent fractures.
Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been chosen to be part of an AI Clinical Research study, ADOPT - identifying incidental vertebral fractures. This role will directly support the study. Assisting with data collection and reporting for research.
The FLS Practitioner will work as part of a team to contact and assess fragility fracture patients, refer for investigations and support patients with results, diagnoses, treatment and any ongoing referrals. You will also work closely with the orthopaedic, bone densitometry, rheumatology and orthogeriatric teams.
Main duties of the job
The well-established FLS model delivers person centred comprehensive bone health assessment including clinical assessment interpretation of DXA scan and blood tests, and treatment recommendations delivered in line with locally agreed guidelines. Team working skills are of paramount importance as well an ability to function as an autonomous practitioner, with polished communication and organisational skills. You will be expected to liaise with colleagues in secondary and primary care, providing specialist advice to healthcare professionals, other agencies, carers and relatives. We continually strive to improve our service and you will be expected to participate in development. You should havepost registration experience in an orthopaedics and trauma and be able to evidence Continuous Professional Development.
