We are looking for a dynamic, driven and enthusiastic dietitian with inpatient experience to work in a busy acute setting at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Working alongside the other dietitians you will be responsible for providing the dietetic input to the Hepatobiliary (HPB) inpatient and Liver Unit at King's College Hospital. King's is the specialist centre for Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic (HPB) surgery for patients in South East London and Kent.
Kings College Hospital is one of the largest liver transplant services in the UK providing hepatology services to patients from around London and the south and beyond. This exciting position is one of3 posts within the Liver & HPB dietetic team that delivers an in and outpatient service to the internationally recognised Hepatology and Liver Transplant Unit.
Main duties of the job
As well as inpatient post-surgical nutritional support including Whipples, hepatectomy and general hepatology, the role will involve complex patient management and MDT working and liver transplant assessments. You will also be responsible for a once weekly face to face hepatology and HPB outpatient clinic. The role works alongside the adult acute dietetic team of 12 dietitians at King's, so there will be an opportunity to also provide cover to the wider acute services. Kings dietetics covers a large range of different specialities including gastroenterology, haematology, neurology, ITU, diabetes, renal, cystic fibrosis and paediatrics so there will be opportunities to gain insight into other areas of dietetics.
The department is involved with student training and accepts students on placements 1, 2 and 3. The post holder would be expected to be involved in student training.

Job responsibilities
- Formulate and deliver individual dietetic treatment plans for patients based on a sound knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options using clinical assessment, reasoning skills and knowledge of a wide range of dietetic treatments.
- Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
- Represent the dietetic service and/or individual patients at multi-disciplinary team meetings, to ensure the delivery of a co-ordinated multidisciplinary service, and integrate dietetic therapy into the treatment programme. This will include discussion of patient care, patient progress and involvement in discharge planning.
- Use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with patients. Use persuasive and empathetic communication skills to motivate patients so enabling them to progress rehabilitation and treatment programmes. This will include patients who may have difficulties in understanding and/or communicating.
- To be responsible for the discharge planning of patients going home on artificial nutritional support.
- Undertake the measurement and evaluation of your work and current practices through the use of evidence based practice projects, audit and outcome measures either individually or with more senior dietitians.
- Maintain and develop current knowledge of evidenced-based practice in the each area, developing specialist knowledge of particular conditions and patient groups.
