In order to ensure that we continue to deliver excellent nursing care, we are currently recruiting qualified Paediatric Nurses to join our dynamic nursing team.
A vacancy has arisen at the Royal Cornwall Hospital on Gwithian Unit. Gwithian is an outpatient area with 4 day beds for children and young people. This role will involve assisting in clinics and undertaking procedures such as endocrine tests, venepuncture, cannulation and ECG's once training is completed. Gwithian Unit carry out a number of investigations and we are planning to develop our scope in the future.
As part of our team, you will be supported in your own professional development, and encouraged to take personal ownership for the high levels of care we provide to our patients and their families.
Main duties of the job
To work as a skilled member of the nursing team, to provide a high standard of holistic family centred care to the children and families.
To promote family centred care and establish good relationships with children and their families.
To communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team.

To plan, assess, implement and evaluate programmes of care for individual children and to supervise other staff in this activity.
To ensure an ongoing welcoming, caring and safe environment is provided for the children and their families.
To run nurse led clinics.
To act as an advocate for the child and family, providing them with information and support and directing them to the relevant support services where appropriate.
To develop and maintain clinical skills and knowledge necessary to provide holistic, evidence based nursing care. This includes expanded role responsibilities, following appropriate training.
To be competent in the administration of medication.
To ensure clinical practice is evidence based or peer reviewed best practice.
Assist with ongoing education and training of families.
To use the Patient Administration System (PAS) in accordance with Trust policy and procedure.

- On part 8 or 15 or the NMC register
- Working or worked on a Paediatric ward or Paediatric outpatient setting

- Ability to plan and care for a group of patients. Good verbal and written communication skills. Committed to family centred care. Good understanding and knowledge of neonates / paediatrics. Awareness of professional issues. Basic IT skills.
- Ability to work well within a team. To be able to manage own time. Enthusiastic and motivated. Good interpersonal skills. Ability to deal with highly emotional situations. Physically able to undertake role including long periods of standing whilst providing clinical care.
- An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check satisfactory to the organisation. OH clearance. Post-holder must comply with professional code of conduct and / or code of conduct for NHS managers where applicable.
