Salary: �50,952 - �57,349 per annum/pro rata
We are recruiting for a Trainee Consultant Mammographerwho shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.
The principal aim of the Radiographer Consultant post is to facilitate expert and autonomous care of patients referred to Breast Imaging. There is a requirement to once qualified work autonomously as part of the clinical team providing Breast Imaging Services and develop consultant level radiographic leadership and practice within Breast Imaging, as part of the clinical team lead by the Director of Breast Screening and Superintendent mammographer.
Main duties of the job
Ability to work with colleagues in Radiology and across the Trust to strengthen the range of expertise that can be offered to clinicians.
Dynamic forward thinking innovative individual, who can help with service expansion.
To demonstrate expert practice in their field, undertaking and reporting of images.
To meet with patients and their families to discuss procedures and explain results.
To communicate effectively with internal and external agencies.
To take an active role in MDM's
To work as part of the multidisciplinary team and also as a multidisciplinary team member of the Radiology Directorate.
To adhere to Trust and departmental policies and procedures.

To be responsible for the provision of a patient focussed breast imaging service using training, education, audit and research to maintain best practice and improve patient care.
To demonstrate expert practice in the field of Breast Imaging, including reporting of mammograms (both symptomatic and screening), undertaking and reporting of breast ultrasound images, performing stereotactic and other breast biopsies, as well as fine needle aspiration of breast tissue and guided localisation procedures.
To undertake the role of trainee Consultant Radiographer in breast imaging using highly advanced skills not traditionally performed by radiographers, providing clinical opinion and diagnosis for patient centred care, at an advanced level.
To engage in research at Masters level or above appropriate to Consultant Radiographer post, acting as role-model and mentor for radiographers within Radiology.
To engage in teaching / training at a level appropriate to Consultant Radiographer post, acting as role model and mentor for radiographers within Radiology (both within Breast Imaging and in General Radiology).
To engage in radiographer / Mammographer education as required assisting them in their development.
To establish, develop and co-ordinate research and audit projects for radiographers within Breast Imaging working with audit lead radiographer.
To meet with patients and their families to discuss procedures and explain results.
To make and receive referrals direct from teams within the hospital and other centres.
To communicate effectively with internal and external agencies.
To take an active role in Breast MDMs
To work as part of the breast multidisciplinary team and also as a multidisciplinary team member of the Radiology Directorate.
To adhere to Trust and departmental policies and procedures.
Thus the trained Consultant will:
Demonstrate expert practice in breast imaging (symptomatic and screening).
Demonstrate professional leadership and development.
Demonstrate personal and breast imaging development through research and evaluation.

Qualifications
Essential
- DCR or BSc in radiography
- Certificate of competency in mammography
- Documented evidence of CPD demonstrating working towards doctorate as a target.
Knowledge
Essential
- Ability to work safely, avoiding the hazards that may be encountered in radiology e.g. lifting, dealing with bodily fluids
- Evidence of enhanced computer skills
- Demonstrate an understanding and experience of working with performance objectives and organisation targets
- Awareness of the role of ultrasound, mammography, MRI, biopsy and CESM in breast cancer
Experience

- At least 5 years Mammography Experience
- Proven analytical, report writing and interpretation skills within area of expertise
- Ability to review images and assess the need for further imaging
- Detect abnormalities and discuss further imaging with the referring clinician and / or colleagues
