An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 nurse to join an exciting and rare opportunity in the mental health team and HMP Bedford.
The team are a key function within the service and work in a trauma informed way for our patients.
The Mental Health team is part of the integrated Healthcare provision which provides mental health services to the residents at HMP Bedford. The team consists of mental health nurses, social worker, a clinical psychologist, an assistant psychologist and visiting psychiatrists.
The service provides comprehensive, safe and effective mental health services via a stepped care model over a 7-day week. The post holder will utilise a variety of practical and theoretical knowledge with the team to deliver both individual and group workings with primary and secondary service individuals
Main duties of the job
This role is for a dynamic individual with effective communication skills who has the ability to complete mental health assessments, person centred robust care plans, CPA and risk assessments. The individual will have the ability to act as an advocate for the residents and be able to keep calm and respond effectively under pressure.
The post holder will have excellent IT & literacy skills, they will have the ability to work as part of a team and as a role model empowering and motivating other team members.
The post holder will be able to demonstrate appropriate professional and personal boundaries, have the ability to use their own initiative and show commitment and dedication through effective time management, along with organisational and decision making skills

- 1. RGN / RMN on the NMC register or Paramedic on the HCPC register
- Be able to work in a fast paced, multi-level environment

- Have experience and knowledge of working in a secure environment
- To Have an understanding of how to support those with neurodiverse needs including Autism, Attention deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
- Understanding of trauma informed care
- Is able to work on own initiative within the boundaries of a prison environment
