An exciting opportunity has arisen at London North West University Healthcare Trust for a role as a Band 6 Mortuary Technician (salary point dependant on experience).

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic ,Mortuary Technician with fantastic communication skills and a pro-activeapproach to join our team in Mortuary Services. For candidates lacking theexperience for the band 6 role, there is an opportunity for fast-trackprogression from a Band 5 Developmental role to a Band 6 Mortuary Technician role through a training period followed by a successful outcome of the mandatory competency requirement.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will need to have good Mortuary experience and after initial training be able to take charge at one of the Mortuary sites in the absence of the Mortuary manager.The successful candidate will join the small but busy Mortuary team. The role is to provide a compassionate and customer focussed high quality mortuary service in conformance with the relevant legislation, code of practice and guidance to Crown Office, local authorities, private organisations and individuals including bereaved relatives.The post-holder is responsible for assisting in the provision of the Mortuaryservice Trust wide there are three mortuaries within the Trust located atNorthwick Park, Ealing and Central Middlesex Hospitals. Work in this arearequires frequent exposure to highly distressing and emotive situations inaddition to periods of intense physical activity with the need to maintainconcentration for long periods. Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to organise and prioritise work is required. There is the need to lone work and to also work well within a small team, sometimes under challengingcircumstances.To ensure that the deceased and their relatives are treated at all times withdignity and respect and perform a broad range of technical work activitiesensuring provision of an efficient service that is in accordance with Trust,Coroner's and Department of Health regulations and requirements.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent in English


Desirable

  • Diploma/Certificate in Anatomical Pathology


Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge of mortuary procedures/
  • Knowledge of Coroner's system


Desirable

  • Knowledge of infection control, health & safety and confidentiality issues


EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Previous experience of dealing with deceased patients
  • Dealing compassionately with bereaved relatives in distressing situations
  • Working in a mortuary


Desirable

  • Working in a healthcare environment


SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Essential

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to use own initiative where applicable
