Main duties of the job

As a Registered Nurse you will work with all members of the Ward/Department clinical team and within the multi-disciplinary framework. You will maintain a high standard of patient care under thedirection of the Ward/Department Sister/Charge Nurse, taking the lead in clinical areas when competent, in the absence of a senior member of staff. At all times, you will work in accordance with the principles governed by the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and Trust Policies.This role requires you to practice and adopt the National 6 C's which are Care, Compassion, Communication, Commitment, Competence and Courage. The 6Cs of nursing stand for the professional values and behaviours and commitment to always deliver excellent care to our patients.

About us

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) King's Lynn is located near some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK, along the north Norfolk coast, and not far from Sandringham House.

We provide a comprehensive range of specialist, acute, obstetrics and community-based healthcare services to around 331,000 people across west and north Norfolk, in addition to parts of Breckland, Cambridgeshire and South Lincolnshire.

We have more than 4,000 staff and volunteers, approximately 530 beds, and a helipad for air ambulances. We work with neighbouring hospitals for the provision of tertiary services, including as part of regional partnership and network models of care, such as the trauma network.

In February 2022 the significant progress that has been made at QEH was recognised by the Care Quality Commission who rated the Trust as 'Good' in all of the core services they inspected. They recommended the Trust moves out of the recovery support system (formerly special measures).

Job responsibilities

Clinical duties included within this position consist of:
  • To be competent in managing emergency situations including directing other members of the team.
  • To be competent in clinical skills including enhanced practice relevant to the clinical area.
  • Safeguard the health and welfare of patients, visitors and staff in all circumstances, including management of situations of violence or aggression.
  • Liaise with the Patient and Liaison Service (PALS) on patient care issues.
  • Comply with the complaints procedure of the Trust in respect of own area.
  • Promptly report all incidents or accidents involving patients, visitors or staff and take appropriate action according to Trust Policy.
  • Ensure the safekeeping of patients property and valuables.
  • Contribute to the philosophy and continuous development of the clinical area.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse with the UK NMC
  • Degree/Diploma in Nursing or equivalent


Desirable

  • Teaching and Assessing qualification
  • Undertaken mentorship training


Experience

  • Relevant experience of looking after patients in a healthcare environment

  • Relevant Post-Registration clinical experience
