This is an exciting opportunity for a 6-month, band 7, secondment to the Practice Development Midwife role, working within the Pastoral Team.

We are looking for a motivated midwife with 3 years' experience who has a passion for developing and providing support to midwives of all bands.

What you must need to be able to offer us:

Essential:
  • Be a dynamic and motivated band 6 midwife with positive role modelling behaviours.
  • Demonstrate excellent leadership skills, caring and compassionate.
  • Be fully competent with all CCAST packages including cannulation, perineal suturing etc.
  • Be able to evidence ongoing clinical development and have current compliance with K2 CTG training
  • Minimum of 80% compliant with your ESR.
  • Assessor/mentorship qualification
  • Provision of an effective learning environment for students and other qualified staff, identifying and addressing/escalating any learning needs.

Desirable:
  • Professional Midwifery Advocate
  • PROMPT trainer
  • NLS trained
  • NIPE trained


Main duties of the job

The primary function of the practice development midwife, is to actively engage in the development, implementation and evaluation of midwifery practice. You will work clinically with midwives in all areas to ensure that these midwives are assessed in the breath of clinical competencies required to ensure the safe delivery of compassionate midwifery practice.

You will have the responsibility to ensure that newly qualified, existing and internationally educated midwives, are supported and can successfully demonstrate the necessary clinical competencies whilst assuring their practice is evidence based and safe.

To act as the practice development midwife within the maternity department, supporting staff in practice to ensure that newly qualified, existing and internationally educated midwives, can successfully demonstrate the necessary clinical competencies so that their practice is evidence based and safe.

You must be able to demonstrate excellent leadership skills, be a caring and compassionate individual focused on providing excellent quality patient care, working within the values held by the Trust.

Job responsibilities

  • Working within all clinical areas with midwifery staff, including newly qualified and internationally educated midwives on an individual basis to develop and enhance clinical skills and competence.
  • Creating an environment that provides supportive learning and professional development of midwives and support staff.
  • Promoting and delivering learning in the clinical areas, identifying training and development needs of midwifery staff.
  • To motivate, inspire and develop other practitioners.
  • To support staff to achieve competency requirements, providing advice and training to support individual progression.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of competencies and training material that demonstrates compliance with local and national guidelines and policies.
  • Identify and act upon areas of underperformance within clinical midwifery practice.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Currently NMC Registered Midwife
  • Registered Midwife with at least 3 years' experience who has worked in all areas
  • Evidence of professional development.
  • Fully competent with all packages including perineal suturing
  • Teaching qualification
  • Assessor/mentorship course or equivalent
  • Fully competent with all packages including perineal suturing


Desirable

  • Professional Midwifery Advocate- if not with a willingness to undertake training if no qualification
  • Masters degree
  • PROMPT Trainer
  • NLS Trained


Skills

Essential

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Teaching skills
  • Ability to be objective when assessing staff


Desirable

  • Experienced in managing groups.
