We are looking for enthusiastic and innovative CBT Therapists to work across our newly formed Wirral Assessment and Formulation Team, formerly known as Single Point of Access (SPA) and CMHTs. These service developments form part of the CMHT transformation agenda and recognise the central role that psychological therapies play in promoting recovery.

You will also be part of an expanding team of experienced psychologists and therapists who recognise the importance of continuing personal development and peer support

Main duties of the job

Alongside direct therapeutic work with individuals and their families, you will also provide consultation and support to our MDT colleagues. In addition to individual work, you will have the opportunity to help us develop and deliver a groupwork programme to promote recovery. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to ongoing service developments, including the National CMHT Transformation Programme. An interest in research and audit is encouraged and supported.

Specialist supervision will be provided for the post and there will be opportunities for the development of clinical skills, including training in therapies. Specifically, there is agreement that the successful post-holder will be able to access training in EMDR, and/or other therapy modalities deemed relevant to the needs of the service Users.

All new clinical support staff will be required to have completed or working towards the Care Certificate (CWP In-house 2 day training to be completed within 6 months of start date).

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment.You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. A small annual fee of �13 per year applies.

New entrants to the NHS will commence on the minimum of the scale stated above.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Relevant degree in nursing, social care of psychology
  • CBT certification, accredited by ABACP (British Assoc. of Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapy)


Desirable

  • Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.
  • Specialist training in Physical Health/Post Traumatic Stress Disorder


Knowledge & Expertise

Essential

  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BABCP


Desirable

  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
  • Specialist knowledge and expertise in relation to a particular problem area (Physical Health/ PTSD).
  • Knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practised within the clinical fields of psychology.
  • Formal training in supervision of other Cognitive Behavioural Therapists.
  • Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings.


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and intervention with clients presenting with Physical Health and P.T.S.D.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems and verbal and physical abuse.
  • Experience of working as a qualified CBT over a minimum of 18 months.


Desirable

  • Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
  • Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.
  • Experience of service user and carer involvement in services.
