An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to work alongside the CHEDS Tier 4 Eating Disorder Service in developing a new Pilot Day Hospital service which aims to reduce and avoid admissions for young people with eating disorders .

The Post is part of the CWP CYP Eating Disorder Teams and will be based within CHEDS (Tier 4) in Chester (Ancora House). CHEDS is a regional tier 4 outpatient service offering evidenced based treatment approaches to 13 - 18 year old's who present with an eating disorder and their families / carers. The service also provides an inpatient eating disorder programme and Tier 4 gatekeeping for young people with eating disorders requiring an inpatient admission across Cheshire and Merseyside.

We are seeking to appoint a skilled and experienced Mental Health Nurse with a genuine interest in working with young people with eating disorders and their families and a commitment to delivering evidence-based interventions and day to day coordination of the day service. We are keen to hear from individuals with relevant training and experience.

The post is a fixed term contract or a secondment opportunity with full-time hours (37.5 hours).

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be involved in the running of the Eating Disorder service and will form part of CHEDS Multi-disciplinary team. Key responsibilities include meal support, physical observations, risk assessment and facilitation of groups. The post holder will also deliver therapeutic interventions to young people and their families. This is a fixed term post in CHED's within the Eating Disorder Day Service as a pilot for the next year however following the pilot there may be opportunity for a continued role in CHEDS.

The post-holder will be offered the opportunity for continued professional development within a well-established multi-disciplinary service. All new clinical support staff will be required to have completed or working towards the Care Certificate (CWP In-house 2 day training to be completed within 6 months of start date).

New entrants to the NHS will commence on the minimum of the scale stated above.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Relevant degree or equivalent level qualification in nursing (registered nurse in mental health or paediatrics).
  • Professional knowledge acquired through training and experience in a mental health provision.


Desirable

  • Ability to demonstrate ongoing learning and development.
  • Experience of working with a caseload of complex cases.
  • Experience of ongoing professional development
  • Previous experience of working within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services


Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • Special interest in the mental health of children and adolescents.
  • Willingness to develop knowledge regarding mental health issues affecting young people.
  • An interest or experience in working with children and adolescents with eating disorders.
  • Ability to inform the MDT of specific needs (and related issues) of clients who have mental health difficulties.
  • Has understanding of, and implemented in their work, current legislation and developments which impact on children/young people.


Desirable

  • Knowledge of the Children Acts and Mental Health Act and other legislation relating to children and young people. Including Future in Mind and Five Year Forward View.
  • An understanding of the physical and psychological development of young people.
  • Knowledge about severe, complex or persistent mental disorders in young people. Understanding of the mental health needs of children and young people in paediatric settings.


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with children and adolescents with mental health problems.
  • Multi-agency/professional working.
  • Experience of working within a bio-psycho-socio model of assessment and care planning.


Desirable
