Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust (DHC) highly values the contribution that the CYP Public Health Service (School Nursing) makes to improving outcomes for children, young people and their families, using evidence-based, early Intervention strategies.

As a Specialist Practitioner, you will lead and participate in the School Nursing core programme, as underpinned by the Healthy Child Programme and will work in partnership with children, young people and families, the Local Authority, Early Intervention Services, Children's Services, Schools and other Health Care providers.You will be required to work closely with neighbouring School Nursing teams pan Dorset, to provide services in response to identified needs, including supporting the delivery of ChatHealth

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Specialist Practitioner (School Nursing) to join and complement our Dorset School Nursing teams. This post is a permanent post of 30 hours per week, year round. The hours can be worked over four days with the core hours being 0830 - 1630 Tuesday to Friday (and no weekend working), however we can be flexible and consider a minimum of 22.5 hours per week

The successful candidate will be based at Sturminster Newton Medical Centre, to cover the North Dorset caseload and support the wider Dorset team.

Main duties of the job

To provide a high quality person centred approach to care delivery which always considers people's safety, privacy and dignity.

To provide specialist care and interventions, assessments, treatments and managing patients on a caseload, as part of the wider multi- disciplinary care team.

To provide specialist advice to others regarding the management and care of patients / service users.

To devise specialist programmes of care, as a team coordinator, for members of the School Nursing team and other professionals, to deliver and ensure they are delivered appropriately.

To plan, implement and review health improvement programmes in a range of settings.

Provide supervision, mentorship, training and clinical support to students and trained practitioners.

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.

Person Specification

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND TRAINING

Essential

  • Registered Specialist Community Public Health Practitioner School Nursing degree/diploma level
  • Membership of the relevant Professional Body


JOB SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Recent previous experience within a comparable role
  • Experience of managing change
  • Able to demonstrate specialist clinical reasoning skills to assimilate information in order to make a clinical judgement regarding diagnosis and intervention.


MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Experience of providing clinical supervision and mentoring to junior staff
  • Experience of devising and delivering training
  • Experience of leading and managing a team


PERSONAL QUALITIES/ATTRIBUTES

Essential

  • Able to communicate effectively at different levels of the organisation and with staff, patient/service users, visitors or external organisations both verbally and in writing in the exchange of highly complex, sensitive or contentious information which may require the use of negotiating and/or persuasive skills.


Desirable

  • Experience of planning and organising complex activities, e.g. organise own time and that of junior staff and learners, planning off duty rotas
