An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust for a Server and Desktop Engineer to join the existing team.
Providing technical support across the Wolverhampton borough, this will include service to over 100 sites including New Cross hospital.
The Server and Desktop Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that any server related issue is dealt with and resolved to the satisfaction of the server manager, in addition the post holder will be responsible for assisting to support end user compute infrastructure to deliver the best possible user experience. They will also act as an escalation point for the server and desktop support teams on advanced technical matters.
You will be educated to a degree level or have equivalent experience, have experience in server and desktop support. You will be a highly motivated individual, able to lead, manage and define and implement technical solutions with ease. The successful candidate will be expected to have an in depth knowledge of Microsoft products, Good exposure to Active Directory and desktop management tools.
An understanding of NHS systems would be essential.
Main duties of the job
To provide hands on Desktop/Client support for The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, To work as direct support for the senior Server / Desktop Engineer, take ownership of client side problems, and handle until an acceptable resolution is achieved.
To assist the senior Server / Desktop Engineer plan and carry out maintenance and upgrades in of the IT Client based services.
To assist with monitoring and help to proactively make adjustments to ensure the availability and performance of client and server based services throughout all sites of the Trust.
To assist in managing operating system deployment to all trust computers, using tools such as MECM and Ivanti
To assist in managing licencing entitlement and deployment across all trust devices.
Implement the security of access to the Trusts systems as defined by the server manager.

All Trust staff relies on the computer and phone systems to perform their duties. It is the post holders responsibility to ensure that the client computing systems are working correctly at all times. The post holder will have the expertise to manage client side issues and correct them.

- IT qualifications: Current Microsoft certifications related to client side computing
- Attended formal technical specialist training courses and kept up to date with IT industry seminars
- High standard of education to degree level
Experience/Skills

- Working knowledge of procedures, service level agreements, and change control.
- Good knowledge of planning and carrying out test environment processes.
- Able to diagnose and troubleshoot highly complex interrelated problems using a logical breakdown approach.
- General security awareness and comprehension of key issues.
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft OS's
- Expert knowledge of Name resolution and TCP/IP
- Extensive experience in large multi-site/server environment including support.
