We are looking for an Occupational Therapist to join our Rapid Assessment Team based in our new state of the art ED and Frailty Same Day Emergency care (SDEC).

The Rapid Assessment and Treatment team (RAT's) are a dynamic, enthusiastic group who are flexible and approachable. We are as supportive of each other as we are of the people that we care for.

We aim to provide innovative and comprehensive assessment and acute rehabilitation through the whole patient journey including frailty at the front door to working alongside all specialities in the ED including MSK, Neuro, respiratory and paediatrics.

Part of your role will be to help shape the service within our new purpose build Frailty SDEC. This will be a key area of focus as we are due to open Frailty SDEC in October 2023.

Working alongside an experienced and knowledgeable team of Occupational therapists, Physiotherapists, and social workers you will have the opportunity to develop complex assessment skills, risk management and rehabilitation skills in the areas of frailty, falls, dementia, long term conditions and multi-morbidities. This provides a great opportunity to learn a variety of different therapeutic interventions with a great training scheme based alongside MDT members.

Main duties of the job

You will undertake specialist occupational therapy assessments and management of a designated group of patients, within the ED. this will involve working with the individuals, groups and carers/relevant others, providing specialist treatment in the most appropriate environment.

The ED Rapid Assessment team provide an 8-8 seven-day service supporting urgent need and offer flexible and varied shift patterns.

Person Specification

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist
  • Evidence of relevant CPD activities


Desirable

  • Evidence of recognised post graduate experience and achieving relevant skills
  • Practice placement supervisor qualification


Skills and attributes

Essential

  • Ability to organise and prioritise
  • Ability to work as an effective member of multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to demonstrate appropriate engagement with others and understanding of the impact of good and poor communication
  • Ability to present information, written and verbally in a clear and logical manner


Desirable

  • Ability to use different communication methods and styles, relevant to specialty


Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience in a relevant junior role, including the management of a range of conditions including acute elderly medicine patients, with evidence of additional knowledge acquired through formal and informal clinical supervision.
  • Experience in assessment and provision of specialist equipment.
  • Evidence of ability to manage complex clinical presentations
  • Awareness of current issues in health care Standards of Professional Practice


Desirable

  • Experience in the use of outcome measures to evaluate clinical treatment
  • Developed/ Specialist clinical skills within relevant area.
  • Delivery of relevant audit projects
  • Experience of training/supporting others (including students) within specialist clinical area
