An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to join the spinal specialist nurse team within the spinal surgery service in LTHT. Experience in spinal surgery nursing is not essential, but desirable.
We offer a challenging and dynamic clinical learning environment dealing with a wide range of spinal patients, including elective surgery, acute surgery, spinal fractures, dealing with both operative and non-operative treatments.

You will be working as part of a busy multi-disciplinary team who are dedicated in providing individualised, evidence based spinal surgery management. The post holder will be expected to work both autonomously and closely with spinal clinicians and across a range of specialities to meet the needs of the service. Job responsibilities
JOB PURPOSE
The Jobholder is responsible for the management of a defined caseload. The
jobholder carries continuing responsibility for the assessment of care needs,
the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and
the setting of standards of care. The jobholder will provide specialist nursing
care and advice to a specific patient group and will contribute to the
development of the speciality service. The jobholder will ensure cost effective
use of resources.
JOB DIMENSIONS
The jobholder will work alongside the current band 7 and 6 nurses within the
team. We provide information, education, advice and support for those patients
undergoing elective spinal surgery. This can be undertaken via the telephone,
within patient groups, person to person on the wards or outpatient clinic
settings. Patient contact starts at the point the patient is listed for surgery
through to ward discharge and beyond. The role requires good communication
skills and close liaison with all members of the Clinical/MDT team to optimise
the surgical outcome for the patient.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Qualifications
Registered Nurse (Level 1)
Recognised teaching/assessing qualification
Post registration qualification in specialty
Experience
Significant post registration experience at Band 5 or equivalent and
experience within a relevant speciality, during which the following
experience should have been gained:
Clinical audit and standard setting
Service development and or change management (desirable)
Skills
Communication
Teaching
Leadership
IT skills
Knowledge
Experience and knowledge of specialty
Current issues in healthcare
Standards of professional practice
Personal Attributes
Excellent interpersonal skills
