Are you an experienced and compassionate parent-infant psychotherapist who is committed to relational working, and who wants to make a positive difference to families and colleagues? The Lancashire and South Cumbria SPCMHT Perinatal Service has a reputation for providing kind and expert care to women, their families and babies during the perinatal period (conception up to two years). We are a multidisciplinary service and work closely with partner agencies, including Maternity Services, Health Visiting, Adult Mental Health Services and the Reproductive Trauma Service.

In order to meet ambitions set out in the NHS Long-Term Plan for Mental Health, we are expanding our psychological workforce to include greater access to parent-infant interventions. We therefore have a really exciting opportunity for two Parent-Infant Psychotherapists to join our service.

Main duties of the job

You would be well supported, and work closely with our Lead Parent Infant Psychotherapist, our Consultant Clinical Psychologist, therapy colleagues and the wider MDT. You will help to help shape and deliver our parent infant-pathways and ensure baby is at the heart of our work.

You will have the opportunity to influence clinical care at every level, from holding a varied clinical caseload, to offering consultation, supervision and training, to playing a key role in service development and quality improvement work.

Person Specification

Education

Essential

• Qualified Adult or Child Psychotherapy/ Clinical or Counselling Psychology that has been accepted by the HCPC/ BPC/ UKCP/ ACP for purposes of professional registration.
• Additional training beyond entry-level qualification in a specialised area of practice (Parent-Infant Psychotherapy/Psychoanalytic Baby Observation 18mnth-2 yrs) through formal post-qualification training (PG Diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses and/or an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice, assessed by an experienced clinical supervisor to be of equal level to a Postgraduate Diploma or higher
• Registered with the HCPC/ BPC/ UKCP/ ACP/BACP as a Psychological Therapist or Practitioner Psychologist, and evidence of continuing professional development as required by the registering body.

Knowledge

Essential

• Parent Infant Mental Health specialist knowledge is essential including:
• Knowledge of new-born, early infancy and child development, theories of infant and child mental health.
• Knowledge of developmental trauma and ACES and the impact on parent infant relationship

Experience

Essential

• Working knowledge of attachment and child development
• Specialist experience of working with Parents and Infants/children as a Psychotherapist, utilising psychoanlytic approaches as necessary for Psychotherapy with Parents and their infants.
• A resilience to working with infants in traumatic circumstances, and to offer containment to other team members impacted by the emotional impact of the work.
