An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated nurse to join the specialist Bowel Screening Wales service based at Brecon Hospital. The post holder will participate as a member of the nursing and multidisciplinary team providing high standards of evidence-based care in the delivery of the Welsh bowel screening programme. The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for participants who have received a positive faecal occult blood test and will provide specialist advice, support and continuity of care throughout the participant pathway. This will include making an assessment of fitness for colonoscopy, attending colonoscopy, managing the results handling process and referral to the multidisciplinary team if appropriate.

Qualifications and/ or Knowledge

Essential

  • NMC registered
  • Masters Degree or demonstrable knowledge and experience
  • Teaching qualification e.g. 998, NST 307, PGCE
  • IRMER training
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and willingness to undertake further relevant training and education
  • Proven experience of mentoring and clinical supervision of qualified and unqualified staff
  • Expert knowledge of colorectal physiology and anatomy, pharmacology, other relevant treatment options
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance issues
  • Awareness of national political priorities and agendas relating to Public Health Wales and Bowel Screening Wales
  • Knowledge of NHS and Screening Services
  • Awareness of professional issues / guidelines
  • Understand change management principles
  • Knowledge of health promotion theories and strategies

  • Non-medical radiology referral training

  • Certification in Bowel Cancer Specialist Screening Practitioner from Liverpool John Moore's University


Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post-registration experience
  • Relevant experience of Bowel Screening Practitioner
  • Clinical experience in Colorectal/Gastroenterology
  • Oncology or acute clinical setting
  • Experience in leading a team
  • Experience of multi organisational working


Desirable

  • Experience of nurse-led assessment clinics
  • Experience as Specialist/Bowel Screening Practitioner within a Bowel Screening Programme
  • Undertaken previous audit work
  • Involvement in research
  • Multi-centre co-ordination experience
  • Previous experience in Screening Engagement
