The post-holder will be part of the Adult Intellectual Disability service providing a Psychology perspective and clinical input within a multi-disciplinary Intellectual Disability service for adults within Powys Teaching Health Board (PTHB). Provide a range of evidence-based services for adults with an Intellectual Disability: this includes assessment and interventions, psychological therapies, advice to the MDT. This post will contribute to the ongoing development of and delivery of psychological services for people with an Intellectual Disability across Powys. Primarily, the role will contribute to community-based services. The model of delivery will be a based upon a bio-psycho-social formulation and understanding of the patient's needs, utilising a needs-led approach, providing appropriate psychological and neuropsychological assessments, as well as psychological interventions.

Main duties of the job

Expected to be involved with a variety of assessment and intervention strategies with community and occasionally ward team patients, in conjunction with the different clinical teams, aiming to meet the patient's needs, as agreed with the patient. The focus of the role includes:

o Assessment approaches (Neuropsychological, behavioural, systemic psychological formulations)

o Intervention strategies (Individual, systemic, formulation based, multidisciplinary team)

o Clinical (clinical work carried out by post-holder) The assessment and intervention approaches delivered will encompass multidisciplinary strategies, to facilitate the client's needs.

All activities will be based upon a holistic, person-centred framework, utilising needs-led models, such as the Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) model and developing these interventions with teams, as appropriate. This will involve providing clinical roles, within the various locations and settings, with other members of the teams, undertaking an evaluation of the service, as is required, and to liaise, on behalf of the Senior Psychologist/Head of Adults with Intellectual Disability Psychology Speciality, with senior colleagues within the various services. The largest component of the activity will be in relation to assessments and psychological interventions.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential

• Post-graduate Doctorate degree in Clinical/Counselling Psychology (or its equivalent) as accredited by the BPS
• Eligibility for Chartered status with the BPS
• HCPC registration
• Knowledge of ethical and professional frameworks, as required for best and safe clinical practice
• Knowledge of relevant publications and/or legislation, regarding Intellectual Disability conditions
• Knowledge of theory and practice of specialist psychological therapies for complex management presentations
• Specialist psychological knowledge/understanding for working with adults with an intellectual disability and working with carers, covering one or more of the following areas: o Bio-psycho-social o Psychometric assessment and interpretation o Psychological formulation of Risk assessment and management o Safeguarding of Emotional concerns
• Willingness to develop knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to Clinical / Counselling concerns
