The Practice Development Lead within the practice education team is a proactive nursing leader, teacher and role model in the Institute of Care Excellence, who leads on the development of excellence in practice education and policy for apprentice students and other learners at NUH. The PDL will be accountable for ensuring learners receive high quality support whilst on clinical placement. The PDL is responsible for ensuring the NMC standards framework for nursing and midwifery education are met - ensuring theory and practice learning and assessment are facilitated effectively and objectively by appropriately qualified and experienced professionals with necessary expertise for their educational and assessor roles.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work closely with the PDL for undergraduate education they will be supportive and objective in their approach to student supervision and assessment. The PDL will be a strong clinical leader, easily identifiable, highly visible and accessible to corporate and divisional education leads, divisional nurses, senior midwifery leaders and practice supervisors and assessors. He/she will have a particular responsibility to liaise with HEI partners and clinical teams to appropriately share and make decisions on student assessment and progression. The PDL will work with the ADN and Institute clinical lead to respond effectively to concerns and complaints about public protection and student performance in learning environments.
He/She will support service improvement by responding to the learning needs of the individuals. The post holder will ensure the active involvement of education leads, senior nurses and midwives in the way practice learning and clinical support are developed, delivered and evaluated.
