This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse to join our dedicated Looked after Children's nursing team within Brent. We are an integrated team working with a range of providers to include professionals from education, social care, and health.

The post holder will be responsible for a caseload of looked after children and young people. It is expected that the post holder will autonomously undertake direct specialist clinical work including carrying out statutory health assessment reviews on Looked after Children. Ability to formulate reports with recommended care plans for each case is essential. You will also be delivering training to foster carers and other health and social care professionals. An interest and knowledge of looked after children and young people are essential.

Main duties of the job

Experience of safeguarding and multi-agency working is also key to the role. The team also take responsibility for children placed out of borough. This includes undertaking the health assessment and/or liaison with other agencies and services, coordinating effective care and acting as an advocate where necessary.

The post holder will provide expertise and demonstrate sophisticated clinical skills to work directly with vulnerable children and adolescents from a background of trauma and/or neglect.

Job responsibilities

• To liaise closely with the Named Nurse for Children in Care, to ensure structures, processes and policies are in place to plan, manage and monitor the delivery of effective health care to all children who are looked after.
• To carry out direct specialist clinical work including carrying our health reviews, identifying unmet need, and ensuring Statutory Health Assessments are conducted.
• Formulate reports for each case with recommended care plans.
• The post holder will contribute to the support and training of Carers and multi-disciplinary/multi-agency teams.
• To be responsible for targeted group and individual health promotion to Children in Care to improve health outcomes and ensure the participation of children and young people in developing services to meet their needs.

Qualifications

Essential

• Registered Nurse with current UK NMC registration
• Educated to degree level in nursing or health related field or equivalent
• Minimum of two years post registration experience working in the acute sector or in the community
• Post qualification degree in health visiting or other health related subject

Experience

• Working with children, ? Adolescents and families in a range of health settings
• Teaching groups and individuals
• Working with other agencies statutory and voluntary
• Experience of working with Children in Care or a sound understanding
