Main duties of the job
Duties & responsibilities
- To assist in the provision and development of a safe, effective and efficient Stroke service and support Trust and Network, in the aim to provide the best possible care to patients
- Provision with Consultant colleagues of a service, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department
- Cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences
- Out-of-hours responsibilities, including participation in the consultant on-call rota for Stroke.
- To participate in service development and business planning
- Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff
- Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activity, locally and nationally
- Participating in medical audit, the Trust's Clinical Governance processes and in CPD
- Managerial, including budgetary responsibilities where appropriate

Qualifications
Essential
- MRCP or equivalent
- Full registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC)
Desirable
- Postgraduate thesis
- Completed fellowship programme
- Progress towards or attainment of college exams
Experience
Essential
- Ability to work autonomously to a level of defined competencies within Stroke medicine and be an expert decision maker having overall responsibility for patient care
- Must have completed at least twelve years full time post graduate training (or equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) with a minimum of six years in Stroke Medicine in the Specialty Doctor or equivalent grade.
- Ability to maintain clinical credibility and authority with a multi-professional team including senior trainees.

- Previous experience in a multidisciplinary setting
- Experience within the specialty in the UK
