Are you an experienced qualified nurse who wants to further their experience and skills in nursing, the Dermatology Outpatients department is looking for an enthusiastic Staff Nurse to join the dermatology team based at Denmark Hill.

The Post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning and provision of specialist nursing advice. The role will involve the care of both Adults and Children with dermatological conditions.

The purpose of this role is to contribute to the dermatology nursing service, by being actively involved in the provision of nurse led services that have a positive impact on the experience of patients and carers by providing high standards of clinical practice and care.

The post holder will be expected to demonstrate good clinical skills and will be responsible for the individualised care of patients.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the Dermatology Nursing Team in the management of the department. They will be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs for patients with many Dermatological conditions. They will develop, implement and evaluate the care for patients attending the Dermatology Day Unit.

The post holder will be expected to carry out all relevant forms of care associated with Dermatology Outpatient clinics including performing and assisting in Dermatological surgical procedures, Patch testing, treating patients with Phototherapy. They will also provide education sessions for patients. As well as supporting the Dermatology Doctors and Senior Nurses.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To be a professional role model to staff responsible for the administration of direct care. To monitor the use of any drugs, dressings and preparations used in the treatment of dermatological disease ensuring their use is evidence based and linked to relevant research

To be conversant with the usage of topical medications, their action, contraindications and guidelines for applications. At all times work in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, ensuring the nursing activities reach the required professional standard

To counsel and educate patients and carers on disease management programmes and correct use of topical therapies, to be aware of resources both within and outside the trust that may be assessed.

To have a working knowledge of local and national standards of care and be

able to contribute to the development of evaluation strategies

To provide support and guidance to trust staff ensuring optimum communication

within professional team

Keep up to date with developments and initiative within nursing as a whole and

dermatology specifically

To undertake patient assessment and problem identification. To plan, implement

and evaluate all aspects of patient care

To discuss with the Senior Nurse the developments and changes, both nursing

and medical, which affect patient care directly or indirectly.

To maintain knowledge of current trends in healthcare and in the profession

To maintain accurate records nursing and others

To ensure that nursing procedures are followed in accordance with the policies

of Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Be aware of individual responsibilities and maintain a safe environment in

accordance with the Health and Safety at work act. Identify, investigate and

report discrepancies immediately they are discovered and take appropriate

action in the absence of the senior nurse.
