We have an exciting opportunity for an Advanced Practice Speech & language Therapist in the field of complex dysphagia and instrumental assessment.
This new post includes establishing and developing a FEES service, joining, and leading the existing Video Fluoroscopy service and provision of training to the wider team in instrumental assessment skills and tracheostomy competencies.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and passionate about the field of dysphagia, they will be an excellent communicator with well-developed leadership skills.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing and developing a FEES service for the Speech and Language Therapy service across Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin, In addition you will join and lead the existing Video fluoroscopy service and provide assessment and management of dysphagia & communication in patients with tracheostomy in an acute setting. The candidate will be competent to a level 3 in FEES, will hold level 4 RCSLT critical care competencies and have Irma and MBSImP training or equivalent.
There is an opportunity to work collaboratively with ENT consultant colleagues and fellow clinical leads in voice, critical care and oncology. Training and facilitating SLT colleagues in developing competencies in tracheostomy management, Video fluoroscopy and FEES will be a major element of this role.

Our service provides a service to adults with acquired disorders of communication and swallowing. We consist of several teams spread across the whole county of Shropshire and two district general hospitals, including Acute medical ward teams based at each acute site, Acute stroke, Early supported stroke discharge, Voice, Macmillan Integrated Therapy team and a Community team which includes dysfluency and input to a specialist spinal unit. We have access to Video fluoroscopy clinics and are looking to re-establish and develop a FEES service.

- Professional qualification
- Qualifications in English and maths
- Current or recent experience of running Instrumental clinics - to include Video fluoroscopy, Fibreoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) and current tracheostomy competencies.
- Modified barium Swallow Impairment profile (MBSImP) training or equivalent.
- IRMER trained
- Clinical supervision, teaching, mentorship and appraisal skills
- Evidence of extensive experience in relevant area of clinical practice.
- Evidence of teaching and training experience
- Evidence of extensive expert professional / clinical knowledge in dysphagia assessment and management including instrumental assessment and trachea management, supplemented by specialist clinical training and CPD
