Applications are invited to join the Psychology Service in Infection & Immunity at Barts Health NHS Trust.

We would like to recruit an HCPC-registered Practitioner Psychologist who has specialist interests and skills in psychology as applied to HIV and sexual health. The primary purpose of the post is to provide psychological support to the patients of the HIV Clinic at Barking Community Hospital. This role also involves providing psychosexual support to the patients of the Sexual Health Clinic, which is also onsite in Barking.

This is a new post, hosted by Barts Health NHS Trust which enables the successful candidate to be supported by and integrated with one of London's largest psychology services in HIV and sexual health.

This can also be a preceptorship post for a recently qualified psychologist, which would involve a process of training and support to transition into a Band 8A role. The maximum amount of time to develop competencies for promotion will be two years for a recently qualified applicant.

The Psychology Service enjoys good close working relationships with the multi-disciplinary teams in Infection & Immunity. We are an energetic and supportive team offering excellent professional support, supervision and CPD. There is a wealth of specialist clinical expertise, and the service has an active audit, research and teaching programme.

This post will be open to job sharing and flexible working hours.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide a highly specialised psychology service to individuals, their partners and family members who present with complex psychological difficulties related to HIV. This service will be for adults who are receiving treatment from the HIV Clinic at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospital NHS Trust (BHRUT) and/or those diagnosed with HIV and living within the boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge and under the care of the HIV Community Support Team.

In addition to providing clinical services, the post holder will attend multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings, offer regular clinical supervision and provide reflective spaces to the rest of the MDT. The post holder will be working within a busy hospital and community health setting (based at Outpatients East, Barking Community Hospital). However, the post holder will also be embedded within and supported by a larger HIV and Sexual Health Psychology Service at Barts Health NHS Trust.

In addition to assessment and therapeutic support to patients from the HIV clinic, the post holder will also conduct neuropsychological assessments and provide rehabilitative support to those who are struggling with HIV-related cognitive difficulties.

The post holder will also contribute to the Sexual Health Service at Barking by providing psychosexual support to patients from the service.
