Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Orthoptist, with one or two years' post graduate Orthoptic experience, to join our small and friendly team.
Our hospital opened a new Ophthalmology centre called the West Norfolk Eye Service at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in early 2022.
In addition to paediatric and adult orthoptic clinics, there will be an opportunity to be involved in extended roles, such as glaucoma and IVT injection with all the relevant training and support required. Experience in any of these areas is desirable, but an interest and willingness to learn is very welcome.
Specific roles and responsibilities will be dependent on experience.
A degree (or diploma) in Orthoptics and registration with the HCPC is essential.
Main duties of the job
Main duties of the role include:
To be responsible for the evaluation of visual acuity, binocular functions and ocular motility disorders in all patients referred to the service including infants with congenital and developmental abnormalities, children and adults with complex needs and/or learning difficulties and patients with neurological conditions.
About us
The department consists of 1 Orthoptist 5 Consultant Ophthalmologists - all with various sub-specialities, including vitreo-retinal, paediatric, oculoplastics and macular Ophthalmic trained nurses and nursing auxiliaries, and an Optometrist.
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) King's Lynn is located near some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK, along the north Norfolk coast, and not far from Sandringham House.
We provide a comprehensive range of specialist, acute, obstetrics and community-based healthcare services to around 331,000 people across west and north Norfolk, in addition to parts of Breckland, Cambridgeshire and South Lincolnshire.
We have more than 4,000 staff and volunteers, approximately 530 beds, and a helipad for air ambulances. We work with neighbouring hospitals for the provision of tertiary services, including as part of regional partnership and network models of care, such as the trauma network.
In February 2022 the significant progress that has been made at QEH was recognised by the Care Quality Commission who rated the Trust as 'Good' in all of the core services they inspected. They recommended the Trust moves out of the recovery support system (formerly special measures).
