The Jenny Lind Children's Hospital are seeking a Band 7, Neonatal Governance / Risk Management Lead to support neonatal services. We are looking for an experienced neonatal nurse to join the established Women and Children's governance team. This new role will enable you to lead on all aspects of governance by following a robust process to improve quality and safety within the service.

The role of an experienced nurse in this specialised service is integral to ensure staff have the appropriate level of knowledge, skill, and ability to deliver high standards of safe effective care to our babies and families.

If you are confident in the assessment, treatment, and management of babies, providing family integrated care and can support a nursing team through effective leadership, management, and education then we want to hear from you!

This is part time: 22.5 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

As the successful post holder, you will be required to:
  • provide practical guidance in setting up and managing systems for the development and delivery of the governance agenda within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and also the Paediatric Directorate.
  • be an integral part of the management team to enable the effective delivery of the principles and practice of governance and risk management across all Services.
  • be responsible for the production of formal reports, undertaking complex information analysis and offering advice and support on Governance issues to the department.
  • work with staff at all levels within the Trust and collaboratively with external agencies / organisations to develop services and improve patient care and patient safety.

The Trust transitioned into The Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) on the 1st of September 2023, this new role will support the delivery of this new framework.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Facilitate the work program for governance, providing practical support to staff in order to improve patient care and patient safety, developing timely and measurable action plans to meet the required standards.
  • As an integral part of the Paediatric Directorate team, advise on local and national policies, which influence or may impact on services, contributing to the delivery of local and national policy initiatives and contributing to key performance outcomes. To work with staff within all areas of the department, to ensure they have governance arrangements in place that are fit for purpose and reflect the Trusts objectives and priorities.
  • To act as a contact point for Neonatal governance matters and to provide advice and direction to all staff demonstrating a constant awareness of departmental issues, dealing with complex, sensitive and contentious
  • To take a leading role in the implementation of the neonatal Risk Management arrangements ensuring that incidents reported are analysed for trends, issues identified and where appropriate, are populated onto the Divisional/Trust Risk Registers.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • 1st Level Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife.
  • Post Registration Qualification in Neonatology
  • Educated to First Level degree (level 6 or above)


Experience

  • Significant post registration neonatal experience
