We have an excellent opportunity for a full-time band 6 rotational paediatric respiratory physiotherapist at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. This is a tertiary hospital and provides a regional and supra regional service to include most clinical paediatric specialities.

This post works within the paediatric respiratory physiotherapy team and involves 18 month rotations between critical care and cystic fibrosis. The caseload will include PICU, PHDU, NICU, cystic fibrosis alongside some neuromuscular respiratory complications, LTV and bronchiectasis.

As a HCPC registered health professional you will have recent clinical experience in respiratory care including critical care alongside broad rotational experience as a band 5. Previous experience of working on an overnight on-call service is essential.

You will be expected to participate in the respiratory on-call and weekend/bank holiday rota.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to line manage and support junior members of respiratory staff and participate in delivering training to students. Previous experience of teaching others is therefore essential. You would be expected to contribute to service development and provide clinical support to other respiratory areas during planned or unplanned absence.

The team is looking for a motivated, flexible and professional individual who is able to provide care to patients and families in an empathetic manner. The post is suitable for somebody who is a good team player with strong communication skills.

We will provide access to training and support for CPD with annual appraisals, peer support and specialist networking and training opportunities to further develop highly specialist clinical skills. Physiotherapy is well recognised and respected within RMCH where we are considered valuable members of multi-disciplinary teams.

Person Specification

Knowledge skills & experience

Essential

  • Experience of respiratory on-call (overnight)
  • Broad postgraduate clinical experience in a rotational post in the NHS, including in both a rehab and respiratory capacity
  • Extensive knowledge of physiotherapy assessment and treatment techniques (in relevant area), including examples of reasoning for choice
  • Experience of teaching/education of junior members of staff/students including to meet a range of learning styles
  • Experience of and commitment to interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary team working, to include examples of personal involvement in complex MDT working
  • Aware of the principles of clinical governance and evidence-based practice, to include examples of complex clinical reasoning
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, including examples of complex communication with a range of people - staff and patients/parents
  • Able to handle sensitive situations, including examples of difficult scenario's involved in


Desirable

  • Experience in a paediatric setting


Qualifications

Essential

  • Recognised BSC Honours degree in physiotherapy or equivalent
  • State registration via HCPC Health and Care Professions Council
