An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Burns Unit team for a motivated Band 5 nurse to join our friendly dynamic team. Our priority is to offer the best holistic care for our patients recovering from a burns injury. The Burns ward at the Queen Victoria Hospital is a regional referral unit for patients who have sustained both major and minor burn injuries and includes 6 ward level beds, Emergency Burns Outpatient services, Burns theatre and a 2 bedded rehabilitation unit.
As a Team we provide specialist advice and support to referring agencies, as well as promoting a consistent approach to management of patients with a burn injury across the London and South East Burns Network (LSEBN) Within this service we offer psychological support and work closely with physiotherapy and occupational therapy team to provide rehabilitation for patients recovering from major burn injury. We lead a variety of specialist nurse led treatments including Nexobrid Enzymatic debridement, Sharps debridement and allograft application. We run a busy Emergency Burns Assessment Clinic, where we treat minor burns and continue to follow up patients recovering from their injury.

Main duties of the job
As part of the burns team you will rotate through the Burns ward and Emergency Burns Assessment Clinic, giving you the opportunity to experience the burns service entirely.
We are proud of the learning opportunities available within our department, which includes ward and Trust based in house teaching, opportunities to attend Seminars and the BBA British burns association conferences. We offer an extensive training programme to develop our burns Specialist nurses. This consists of our in house Burns competencies, Burns management day which can then progress to the Advanced Burn Care Modules level 6 and 7 and Emergency Management of severe Burns(EMSB) which is run by the LSEBN network. We are happy to support newly qualified nurses with successful completion of your training.
This vacancy is eligible for the �1500 New Starter Premium. Please be aware that this incentive is aimed at new starters to QVH and is only applicable for those not paid by QVH at the time of applying this includes bank and internal movers. If a new starter left QVH less than 12 months prior to current appointment they are not eligible.

Clinical
- Carry out a full range of registered nurse duties, including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patients condition and care with support from the nurse in charge. Maintain the privacy and dignity of all patients whilst adhering to Trust and department policies, reporting any difficulties with these duties to senior staff.
- Work without direct supervision once key learning outcomes of the induction/ foundation or preceptorship programme have been completed.
- Maintain a safe environment when caring for patients, including those patients requiring frequent levels of monitoring.
- Monitor all patient care and treatment, maintaining high standards and quality at all times.
- Document incidents on Datix in real time and escalate these to nurse in charge. Aware of trust risk management and how to raise concerns policies
- Prioritise nursing care, recognise deterioration in a patients condition and alert senior staff immediately.
- Maintain accurate, contemporaneous and legible written records of care.
- Use effective communication, written and verbal with all levels of staff including the multidisciplinary team, patients and relatives.
- Adhere to the agreed procedures as identified, and promotes by example, a high standard of good quality nursing care in the department.
- Foster good relationships with other departments, the multidisciplinary team and visitors to the unit. Help to achieve and maintain morale for both staff and patients.
- Participate in the health education and explanation of treatment to patients and relatives.
