An opportunity has become available with the Personality Disorder Community Team for a full-time Band 6 Clinical Specialist.

We are looking to employ a Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, Arts Therapist or other Health Care Professional, wishing to specialise in the delivery of clinically informed and evidence-based care in the Camden & Islington NHS Foundation Trust Personality Disorder Service.

The Personality Disorder Service is an integrated service, made up of a Community Team (providing adapted Structured Clinical Management), a Therapies Team, and a Liaison Team (working with colleagues in acute, crisis, primary care, and young people's services).

The service encourages applications from black and ethnic minority staff.

Main duties of the job

This opportunity is for a registered professional to join a specialist Community Mental Health Team as a case manager working with people who have needs relating to a given diagnosis of 'Personality Disorder'.

The focus of the role will be that of individual assessment and specialist clinical intervention delivered within the framework of NICE guidelines. The Community Team offers service users trauma-informed interventions within the framework of the Structured Clinical Management model of care. This includes formulation-led assessments and treatment plans to support people with this diagnosis.

Case management, Care Act assessments and safeguarding will also form part of this role, alongside working with service users' whole support systems.

The Team's approach is based on the Structured Clinical Management (SCM) model. The essence of SCM is formulation-based case management, including therapeutic input, active crisis planning, and medication as an adjunct where appropriate.

You will receive both managerial and clinical monthly supervision, benefit from guidance and containment from senior colleagues across the clinical team and management group. You will be joining regular in-house training, reflective practice, multidisciplinary team meetings and case formulation meetings as part of your practice and development.

Job responsibilities

Working with service users to develop internal skills that increase their resilience and independence within the framework of Structured Clinical Management but using a collection of evidence-based approaches to inform 1:1 and systems work

Direct work with and consultation to crisis services to develop robust management plans that fit with longer term work for people who are using the service.

Contribution to internal training structures and support of students who may be learning within the team

Entry of needs assessments, case notes, risk assessment and crisis planning on EPR system

Ability and responsibilities for establishing and maintaining communication and relationship both internally and externally. e.g. to have the skills to be able to communicate highly complex information, particularly in relation to risk

Where appropriate the post holder will be required to administer depot medication on occasion (NMC reg. only)

To be responsible for providing expert care in personality disorder care co- ordination, in accordance with NMC or HCPC codes of professional conduct

Person Specification

Qualification

Essential

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Arts Therapist, Psychological Therapist, Social Worker or other allied health professional.


Desirable

  • Mentorship or recognised teaching and assessing certificate or willingness to undertake


Knowledge

Essential

  • A good knowledge and experience in relation to factors that relate 'personality disorders'/ mental illness together with evidence based best practice.


Desirable

  • A clear understanding of the mental health legislation its application and use in practice.


Skills

Essential

  • Post qualifying experience of working with people who have a diagnosis of 'Personality Disorder'


Desirable

  • A personal resilience, strength and understanding of the impact of working with people who have experienced trauma
