This post is for a substantive appointment of a Consultant Cardiologist with a special interest in Inherited Cardiac Conditions (ICC). The appointee will be expected to be proficient in the management of all ICC, with particular emphasis on heart muscle disease.
LHCH provides medical and surgical adult cardiothoracic services to the people of Merseyside, North Wales, Isle of Man, parts of Lancashire and Cheshire. This catchment area has a population of 2.8 million people. The Hospital provides a full range of invasive and non-invasive Diagnostic Cardiopulmonary facilities. There are five Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories for Diagnostic Procedures, Angioplasty and Electrophysiological work, with three Labs used predominantly for the PCI service and two predominantly for EPS. We have a dedicated pacing theatre a further operating theatre used approximately 50% of the time for cardiac devices (the remaining sessions are for aneurysm surgery/aortic stenting/TAVI).
Main duties of the job
There has been a major increase in the ICC service in recent years and an increase in referrals from within the region and from further afield. There is a strong link with the Genetics service at Liverpool Womens hospital with a Consultant Geneticist present for ICC clinics and the ICC MDT. We also have the presence of genetic counsellors on site for 2 days/week. The heart muscle disease service has benefited from a true multi-disciplinary clinic once a month with imaging / EP / device / structural expertise. There are 3 specific heart muscle disease clinics per week in addition with the current dedicated ICC Cardiologist and 2 nurse specialists.
The appointee will be joining a team of 8 EP/device specialists, 2 dedicated ICC cardiologist, 2 ICC nurse specialists, 2 device/ heart failure cardiologists, 3 imaging specialists and the coronary intervention team.
About us
As the largest single site specialist heart and chest hospital in the UK, we, at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, have a clear vision 'to be the best cardiothoracic integrated healthcare organisation'.
We provide specialist services in cardiothoracic surgery, cardiology, respiratory medicine both in the hospital and out in the community.
We serve a catchment area of 2.8 million people, spanning Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and the Isle of Man, and increasingly we receive referrals from outside these areas for highly specialised services such as aortics.
Our reputation for strong performance is important in delivering the best care for our patients and high quality clinical services. This is underpinned by a culture of research and innovation, delivered in modern estate and our encouragement of flexible working in a variety of forms.
