We are currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Team Leader to join our First Response Service.

The First Response Service provides 24 hour access to mental health services for people who identify, or have been identified as being in a mental health crisis. It is an all age service.

Support is provided initially over the phone by Psychological Wellbeing Telecoaches, who are trained in the process of mental health triage and who will attempt to de-escalate the individual's crisis over the phone and formulate a safety plan for that individual.

Dependent on the risk and need identified, a face to face assessment can be arranged and carried out by a Mental Health First Responders. The team is overseen each shift by a Clinical Lead. The outcome of the telephone triage or face to face assessment is that the patient will be supported, given advice, referred to appropriate services.

The ideal candidate will have a strong team work ethic, sense of accountability, accompanied by an ability to work under considerable pressure at times.

Main duties of the job

  • To lead and manage the Cambridgeshire and peterborough First response team, delivering safe and effective high-quality services , within the available resources, to achieve Trust targets .
  • The post holder will provide leadership and expertise to deliver services within an agreed service model, working with service users and carers, and other stakeholders , maintaining effective working relationships within the teams and Directorate .
  • Provide inspirational operational management and leadership to the team ensuring effective implementation and ongoing delivery of Trust pathways and protocols
  • Lead on recruitment and supervision of staff within the team, establishment and monitoring of policies and procedures and liaison with a range of stakeholders including commissioners.
  • To undertake clinical work to maintain registration with their governing body.

  • Provide evidence based clinical interventions, making autonomous clinical decisions about own professional practice
  • Responsibility for the development, planning and implementation of brief care and treatment interventions for individual patients within First Response.
  • Ensure that individual episodes of care are delivered in a timely, effective and integrated manner.
  • Promote a recovery model that empowers patients, carers and relatives to be at the forefront of decision making and ownership of their packages of care and treatment.
  • Act as the patients and relatives advocate
  • Champion patients rights, including: dignity, equality, diversity, choice and respect.


Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • Social work Qualification
  • Mental Health Nurse Qualification/ NMC Registration.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Undertaken/working towards accredited courses which enable potential Advanced Practitioner registration.
  • Teaching (clinical practice) qualification/certificate or equivalent experience


Desirable

  • Advanced Nurse Prescriber Qualification / or AMPH qualification
  • Leadership qualification/training


Experience

Essential

  • Mental health care/treatment relevant to service.
  • Working with people presenting in mental health crisis.
  • Teaching, training and/or supervision of clinical staff.
  • Multi-agency working/working across service interfaces.
  • Working within a multicultural framework.


Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • Assessing, formulating and working with people presenting in heightened state of distress.
  • Communicating (oral and written) complex/highly technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
  • Clinical risk assessment and contingency planning.
  • Able to meet the service needs for mobility across the geographical area covered.
  • Able to demonstrate commitment to high quality care and service provision


Knowledge & Understanding

Essential

  • Evidenced based clinical interventions relevant to the service.
  • Relevant specialist clinical courses/training.
  • Models of care and treatment relevant to working with people in mental health crisis
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Sound knowledge of ? Mental Health Act ? Care Act ? Mental Capacity Act
