Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust delivers a maternity service across two sites, Queen Charlotte's & St Mary's Hospitals, where over 9000 babies a year are born. Both hospitals have a long and highly regarded heritage in maternity care, meeting the varying needs of childbearing women in a variety of low and high risk settings.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Midwife committed to promoting excellence in practice to join the midwifery education team, based at the St Mary's hospital site. If you have a passion for student education and support, have excellent communication, organisational, IT skills and a keen interest in teaching and developing practice, we would like to hear from you

The role will involve facilitating and coordinating clinical placements for learners, ensuring they obtain the requisite experience to meet the NMC requirements for registration. You will also be involved in the preparation of practice supervisors and assessors and visibly support them in their role in the clinical areas. The post holder will also be required to collaborate closely with our partner universities and have a good understanding of the curriculum and assessment requirements of all students that are supported within the maternity services

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a professional role model, with responsibility for the facilitation of student and return to practice midwives placement experience

The purpose of this role is to enhance the quality of the learning environment and student experience. In particular focusing on clinical practice, skill acquisition and the achievement of proficiencies as specified by the Nursing and Midwifery Council. This is accomplished by working with practice supervisors, assessors, students, lecturers, midwives and NHS Trust clinical placement leads.

Person Specification

Education/ qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Midwife
  • Evidence of post registration education activity
  • First degree.


Desirable

  • Has attained or is working towards a Masters Degree in midwifery or relevant alternative.
  • Teaching qualification
  • Leadership qualification


Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience as a practicing midwife
  • Experience working as a mentor/practice assessor/preceptorship support
  • Experience teaching in a variety of settings
  • Experience of staff management


Skills/knowledge/ abilities

Essential

  • Evidence of applying current research to practice.
  • Highly developed IT skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Enthusiastic, motivated and able to motivate others.
