The Radiology Directorate at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and dynamic CT Radiographer to join our team. The ideal candidate for this role would be a Radiographer with recent, proven experience/training within a CT department, who is competent to provide a wide range of CT examinations. Experience in IV cannulation would also be an advantage.

We will also consider applications from individuals who can demonstrate a high level of CT knowledge and a keen interest in CT Imaging to be placed into a Band 5 Training Post. Trainee radiographers will automatically progress to Band 6 once competency to work unsupervised has been achieved.

This is a busy and rapidly expanding department with a fleet of Siemens and Canon CT scanners, including a state-of-the-art CT facility located directly in the Trust's new Emergency Village development.

Previous experience working in an NHS Trust is essential for this post and you may be expected to attend in person for an interview if shortlisted.

Main duties of the job

You will be joining a fantastic team of Radiographers who provide a comprehensive CT service including specialist procedures such as CT Colonography, Interventional CT, Cardiac CT.

The successful candidates should hope to develop significant experience in cardiac CT. As a tertiary cardiac centre we have a dedicated cardiac CT unit and run these sessions 5 days per week.

Candidates would be expected to work flexibly on a rotational shift pattern to include day shifts, long days and night shifts.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will act as a practitioner as defined within IR(ME)R 2017. This requires an assessment of each referral, under a locally agreed criteria and a decision made on whether to proceed with the examination as requested, modify or reject it.

To determine and deliver the most appropriate imaging procedures to assist with the diagnosis and subsequent treatment of a wide range of patients and conditions. They will be accountable within the team for ensuring that the standard of clinical radiography is of a high level, quality being of prime importance.

To adhere to and practice within the HCPC Code of Professional Conduct.

To provide an effective imaging service and support service users as required, as part of a 24/7 shift system (this may include on-call). To competently undertake a wide range of CT examinations, including Interventional CT, Cardiac CT and CT Colonography procedures.

To be competent in performing IV cannulation, and be able to safely administer contrast agents using high pressure injectors, in-line with departmental and trust documentation.

To have a responsibility for and assist in the training of more junior or less experienced colleagues as directed by the CT Clinical Manager.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc in Diagnostic Radiographer or equivalent
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Evidence of on-going continuous professional development (CPD).


Desirable

  • PgCert / PgDip in Medical Imaging equivalent to UK qualifiaction
  • Intravenous Injection Certificate with an accredited body
  • Evidence of attending study days / courses.


Experience and Skills

Essential

  • Evidence of clinical competency and radiographic experience in General Radiographer and/or CT.
  • Good knowledge of anatomy and pathology.
  • Evidence of theoretical and clinical knowledge underpinning Radiographic practice (i.e. CPD portfolio to include pieces of reflective practice).
  • Basic Life Support
  • Knowledge of IR(ME)R 2017 and Ionising Radiation Regulations
  • Knowledge of Hospital Information Systems
  • Knowledge of legislation relating to the Radiographic Profession
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of Health Policy
  • Previous experience working in an NHS imaging department
  • Have an ability to set and establish priorities.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Good time management.
  • Be able to communicate at all levels including patients with learning difficulties
  • Dexterity to manipulate sensitive equipment & co-ordination to enable accurate positioning of patients and equipment
