An opportunity has arisen for an experienced band 6 midwife to lead on GAP Grow at Whipps Cross.

The candidate should have a minimum of 2 years' experience working within the maternity.

You will be working closely with the Fetal Medicine Midwife/ Maternal medicine and sonographers.

Band 6 midwife 37.5 contracted hours.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work alongside many competing priorities, including competency in fetal growth assessment as this is essential to ensure clinical alertness and ability to make the expectant mother aware that her baby is at increased risk because of suboptimal fetal growth. Standardised assessment improves detection and reduces unnecessary investigations.

The post holder will have an awareness and understanding of risk factors for SGA/FGR and perinatal mortality, including medical, social and obstetric history The post holder will be responsible for ensuring and use of customized Grow charts, standardised fundal height measurement and correct recording on the GROW chart. They will also ensure that staff understand clinical implications and referral pathways. They will also be responsible for the auditing all aspects of the GAP grow pathways.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Midwife with current NMC registration at Band 6
  • Education to degree level with evidence of continuing education


Desirable

  • Prep for Practice Supervisor/Assessor course
  • Working towards MSc


Experience

Essential

  • At least 2 years experience working in either a Community or antenatal setting and be familiar with the GAP Grow Assessment protocol.
  • Understanding of audit and how to present findings Evidence of clinical ability in all maternity settings
  • Evidence of clinical credibility and experience in primary and secondary care settings.
  • Knowledge and understanding of information governance.
  • Articulate and knowledgeable on all aspects of maternity care including public health agenda and social care issues
  • Able to provide evidence based clinical advice
  • Familiarity with professional code of practice.


Desirable

  • Experience of Equal Opportunity policies and procedures
  • Has worked in a variety of settings using all midwifery skills
  • Experience of caring for at risk / socially excluded patient


Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge and understanding of information governance.
