We are looking for a resourceful and energetic Technical Services Officer to join our expanding team. Come and join us at North Manchester General where you will enjoy a role which can showcase your expertise and knowledge in an ever-changing environment.

The NMGH Estates Technical Services Officer has responsibility for Hard Facilities Management (FM) services and sub contracted services at North Manchester General Hospital and any other sites serviced by the NMGH Estates Team. S/he will be responsible for ensuring that all buildings, plant & infrastructure are maintained safely and cost effectively within agreed statutory requirements, in accordance with NHS and the Trust's policies and procedures, you be on hand to help support and fix issues across the site, making sure that visitors, workers, and patients all receive the same great experience.

No day will ever be the same with analysis to resolve technical issues included, you'll be able to use your skills liaising with all types of stakeholders and clinical staff to support the running of a busy hospital.

Main duties of the job

Each day will bring a new duty and test your knowledge. You will undertake robust AP duties including testing, validating, certification, and registration of Trusts compliance requirements. You will ensure maintenance and repair works on hospital equipment and services has ben completed to a high level which will include (but not limited to) installation of water, medical gases, BMS, decontamination electrical, and constructive service and hardware. You will have the required skills that the properties are maintained in accordance with the service level agreements and to the appropriate quality and standards expected.

You will use your knowledge and experience to prioritise your workload to affect change within the hospital to build a safe environment for clients, visitors, and staff. The demands of the role will include carrying out the main duties and responsibilities mentioned in the attached document. The candidate will understand planned preventative maintenance, and reactive maintenance and repair of mechanical systems as well as being trained on new systems.

You will ensure the safe and responsible use and manual handling of equipment, whilst working in potentially hazardous environments (switch/plant rooms and workshop) and/or environmental conditions observing H& S and Codes of Practice

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications


  • Engineering related HNC in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering or equivalent experience of working on a range of systems i.e. ventilation systems, mechanical installations, Medical Gases. Mechanical qualification
  • Written and verbal communication skills in order to be able to liaise with staff at all levels of the organisation.
  • Ability to work on own initiative without close supervision.

Desirable Qualifications


  • Engineering related HND in Mechanical or Electrical Building Services Engineering or equivalent
  • Membership of a professional organisation e.g. IHEEM, CIBSE, etc.



  • I.T Skills Excellent use of outlook, Excel, Word and Handheld devices
  • Able to work dynamically at all levels, both as part of a team and as an individual


  • Knowledge of the Healthcare environment



  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills at all levels, across all disciplines
  • Customer focused Able to deal effectively with other professional staff
