To provide physiotherapy services working as an autonomous practitioner managing a defined clinical caseload which includes:
Obstetrics / gynaecology and bowel patients / breast surgery both in-patients and out patients, being professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work.
Main duties of the job
To carry a variable clinical caseload as part of the Women's and Men's Health team, providing advanced physiotherapeutic assessment, diagnosis, treatment and advice to patients who may have diverse and complex presentations.
To be able to complete an internal vaginal and bowel assessment.
This includes in and out patient physiotherapy treatment in the fields of obstetrics, gynaecology, general surgery and breast surgery.
To supervise and support both the Band 4 physiotherapy assistant and physiotherapy students as required.
To work independently under the guidance of the team leader and actively participate in the professional development of self and others.
To contribute to other departmental activities.
To provide specialist assessment and treatment for back and pelvic pain in pregnancy and postpartum, post-operative oncology breast surgery and urinary and faecal incontinence.

Job responsibilities
The post holder is responsible for establishing their own caseload and liaising with admin staff to keep electronic diary up-to-date. The principles for prioritising work are agreed between the post holder and the team leader. The post holder is expected to attend and actively contribute to MDT meetings in order to achieve integrated care as the service requires.
An outpatient caseload for all obstetrics / gynaecology / general surgery / breast surgery related referrals will be managed by the post holder who is then responsible for seeing new patients within the required timescale. Subsequent follow up is arranged by the post holder.
The post holder acts as a key co-ordinator of obstetric and breast surgery physiotherapy service, liaising with members of MDT as required.
The post holder is able to fully assess most patients, including the complex, using advanced tests and specialised examination techniques to achieve a diagnosis, identify problems to be treated & /or goals of treatment. They use clinical reasoning to analyse and prioritise complex problems. They are able to assist and give guidance to others with assessment, clinical reasoning and treatment planning.
Performance in the role will be monitored by the Team Leader Physiotherapist with regular review using the HDFT Appraisal Toolkit.

- oRegistered with Health & Care Professions Council
- oBSc (Hons) Physio or equivalent
- oPrevious NHS experience, completed broad range of rotations at band 5 / junior level i.e. 5 or 6 different specialties over 18 months
- oPrevious experience in assessing and treating obstetric patients.
Desirable
- oMember of POGP
- oPrevious Senior / Band 6 experience in relevant specialist area(s).
- oEvidence of relevant post-graduate training/CPD
- oPrior involvement with audit, outcome measurement, objective or standard setting
- oPrevious experience as clinical educator
- oPrevious experience in assessing and treating Gynaecological patients
