Are you looking for an exciting and varied inpatient role at the Oleaster Centre for Mental Health?
The centre offers five wards, each with their own specific client group and ethos consisting of male PICU, male and female Assertive Outreach wards, and female and male acute mental health wards. Bed Management, Psychiatric Decisions Unit, 2 large Home Treatment Teams and the specialist ECT suite are also amongst the teams based at the Centre. We are also next door to The Barberry, which is a hospital that provides national services in specialist areas such as mother and baby, Deaf services and eating disorders. The Oleaster is central to acute and urgent care provision across Birmingham and offers a number of conveniences and transport links within the local area.
Magnolia is the Assertive Outreach (AOT) inpatient wardproviding enhanced care and support for male patients being cared for under the Assertive Outreach model across Birmingham. You will be working within an established and talented team who have a wealth of experience to learn from and existing established working relationships with the corresponding community AO Teams. The successful candidate will be provided with opportunity to identify unique development needs, reflect on and enhance their skills and knowledge as well as receive ongoing support on a regular basis.
Main duties of the job
Some of the key duties, not exclusive to:
- Being a named nurse and having special responsibility for identified group patients, including co ordinating their inpatient care, liaising with relevant community teams, being an advocate, building supportive relationships, shaping and creating person centred and recovery focused care plans and comprehensive risk assessments
- Medication management and administration
- Providing high quality care in line with individual care plans and helping create a therapeutic and safe environment
- Working within best practice guidelines, principles, and policies
- Leading shifts and allocating tasks
- Providing support to wider team
- Responding to clinical incidents and emergencies and learning from events in practice
- Leading and contributing to ward reviews and discharge meetings
- Ensuring required paperwork reflecting physical health assessments, risk, assessment summaries, care plans and so on are comprehensive, complete, and up to date
- Complying with requirements stipulated by Mental Health Act and ensuring its application is safe and lawful
- Supporting students from nursing and other disciplines and enhancing their learning and development, assessing their skills and overall progress
