We are now looking for a Senior Systems Infrastructure Engineer to complement the technical expertise of the existing team. Reporting to the Trust's Systems Infrastructure Manager you will be responsible for the daily operational management of the Trust's central computing systems. This is a technical role which will require active participation in the development of the Trust's data centre infrastructure, the provision of technical advice to support IT projects will also be required.

Main duties of the job

The Systems Infrastructure Team uses its technical skills for the daily operational management, support and backup of the Trust's central computing systems. The Team consists of a group of highly self-motivated technical individuals headed up by the Systems Infrastructure Manager.

Working closely with team and Digital Services colleagues, system owners, users and other stakeholders, the Senior Systems Infrastructure Engineer will bring their extended technical knowledge to the implementation, deployment and support of critical systems. Using their experience, they will also contribute to the continuous development of Trust IT Infrastructure.

The post holder will be required to participate in an on-call rota to support core systems out of hours.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Current/recent Microsoft qualifications
  • Evidence demonstrable considerable continued professional development


Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Proven professional experience of the installation of servers (physical and virtual), operating systems and applications
  • Proven professional experience of working effectively within a team in an operational systems environment
  • Proven experience of configuring PCs and servers onto a network and the configuration of basic applications
  • Detailed knowledge of Microsoft operating systems including Windows Server 2008/2012/2016 and Windows 7/10
  • Knowledge of Microsoft products (SQL, Exchange 2016, IIS and Office 365).
  • Detailed knowledge of LAN and WAN communication protocols including TCP/IP
  • Detailed knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and installation, operation and migration of those elements
  • Detailed knowledge of VMWare (ESX) installation, configuration, operation and migration
  • Detailed Knowledge of SAN and NAS Technologies
  • Proven experience of technical fault finding and resolution within a large scale organisation.
  • Proven experience of liaising with a wide range of professions and departments.
  • Proven experience of working with end users.


Desirable

  • Proven experience of working in agile environments
  • Knowledge of Unix/Linux
  • Knowledge of Trend AV and anti-malware technologies
  • Knowledge and experience of Kemp hardware network load balancers

  • A full current driving licence.

  • The willingness to undertake further training if required.
  • Motivation and ability to continually and actively learn and expand skills/knowledge.
