The post is in the Community Mental Health team, (CMHT) based at Huntington House, York. The post is a 9 PA post shared with another Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr Andrea Brown, who also works 6 PAs into this part of the service.
The Central CMHT provides expert secondary mental health care to adults over the age of 18 who live in the central part of York and surrounding area. This part of York also serves the university populations. The locality has recently moved from GP allocated services to post code allocated services and there are further plans to align our services with the Primary Care Home model. The other parts of the city are covered by the North CMHT based in York at Huntington House the west team based at Acomb Garth in York and the South Team, based at Worsley Court in Selby. Our colleagues in the older persons CMHTs provide care for older adults (typically over 70, although the age boundary is flexible depending on need).
The Trust provides a range of mental health and learning disability services to the 2 million people living in County Durham, Darlington, Teesside, North Yorkshire and York & Selby.The Trust has strong academic links with local universities.
Main duties of the job
It is the expectation that the post-holder will provide senior leadership and oversight to the learning and development needs of the wider team. The post is primarily based at Huntington House and the post-holder will have access to office space at Huntington House, as well as the option of hot desk working in the shared team office.
In addition to the core team of staff listed above, there is an expectation for the post holder to support medical students, postgraduate doctors, and students of other disciplines on rotation with the team.
As a senior medic within the team, it is the expectation that the post holder will:
Offer senior advice and support in the assessment, formulation, diagnosis and management of presenting conditions
Support the team and other prescribers to make safe and effective prescribing decisions
Take part in morning huddle meetings with the team as well as attending MDT meetings, professionals meetings, and the team leadership meeting
Take part in and provide insight and direction into complex case work, contributing to the overarching formulation of patient care and planning within the scope of Multi-disciplinary Team approach
Join the wider team in providing relevant teaching and training when required.
Participate in Mental health Legislation work such as carrying out Mental Health Act Assessments and writing tribunal reports.I

Based on intensive consultation and staff and service user involvement, the locality has developed a whole system of care. All specialist elements required by the Mental Health National Service Framework are in place, with some local tailoring to meet the challenges of rurality. The service is an integrated health and social care enterprise (with North Yorkshire Social Services).
We aim to provide compassionate care to patients carers and families that takes account of the patients needs and aspirations beyond their mental illness. Our aim is to work collaboratively with patients, sharing responsibility for their care and providing informed choice about treatment options.
The clinical directorate includes a Locality Manager for Community Services who works closely with the Locality Manager for Acute Services and Lead Psychiatrist. They are all accountable to the Quality Assurance Group which is chaired by the Associate Medical Director and General Manager for Adult Mental Health services and meets once a month. The line management for this service consists of the Teams Consultant Psychiatrist, Lead Psychiatrist and Team Manager.
Doctors are supported in their development via annual appraisals, job planning and revalidation. The Trust provides a range of health and wellbeing services for staff including an Employee Support Service, counselling service, mindfullness sessions, staff retreats and guidance on health and fitness. A car lease scheme is available to staff
