Due to maternity leave, we have an exciting opportunity for a motivated dietitian who is enthusiastic about providing a high-quality service to patients with diabetes.

You will be working as a Clinical Expert Diabetes Dietitian within the multi-disciplinary diabetes integrated care service based at Scunthorpe General Hospital. The team consists of specialist nurses, podiatrists and consultants who provide care and treatment to support people living with diabetes.

The service provides high-quality care to patients with complex Type 2 diabetes, Type 1 diabetes and diabetes antenatal clinics.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for developing the service, managing their own caseload in a secondary care setting, running outpatient dietetic and MDT clinics. You will deliver structured group education sessions and be involved in in-house education workshops.

You will also be responsible for training and supervising students, providing peer support/supervision to other dietetic colleagues and contributing to the evaluation and development of the dietetic service.

Applicants must have extensive experience working with adults with diabetes, flash and continuous glucose monitoring and be proficient in carbohydrate counting. Experience of insulin pump therapy is desirable.

Excellent communication, team working and organisational skills are essential.

Job responsibilities

Develop and lead on the provision of an efficient and effective Nutrition & Dietetic service to diabetes patients.

Attend MDT meetings in the community or on both main hospital sites as required.

Practice autonomously, demonstrating expert problem solving and clinical decision making skills while demonstrating professional accountability and responsibility.

Be a role model for the wider team by promoting a positive research culture.

Identify, promote and embed evidence and identify impact measures using findings to enhance future activity.

Identify and support the achievement of learning needs of individuals/team in response to service need and personal development planning.

Identify priorities for evidence based audit and research projects are undertaken within the service to ensure continuous quality improvement in the service.

Propose practice and policy changes which impact on the wider service and implement changes in own area.

Act as a change agent.

Provide leadership for quality improvement and service development to enhance people's wellbeing and experiences of healthcare.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications


  • Appropriate Profession, Degree/Diploma
  • Current HCPC registration
  • Post registration masters level study (level 7) or equivalent experience
  • Valid car driving licence


  • Relevant specialist clinical courses at Masters level
  • Evaluating Evidence Masters level module
  • Change Management Masters level module

Occupational experience and abilities


  • Significant post registration clinical experience in the defined area related to vacancy
  • Experience of supporting and developing staff e.g supervision, teaching, mentoring or action learning
  • Regular teaching of Pre registration students in own profession
  • Utilisation of specialist assessment and treatment modalities
  • Experience of accessing, assessing and implement current evidence base through variety of mechanisms


  • Evidence of systematic overview of service area quality

Knowledge and skills


  • Quality Improvement Methodology e.g.(QSIR)
  • Advanced communication skills in particular sharing complex clinical information at appropriate level for audience


  • Project management as part of service development initiatives
